Discovery has its name and registry on it, we just haven't seen the ship in action yet. The last two episodes are more of a prologue leading up to the new series.
The ship we saw yesterday, had her name on the sides of the saucer section, instead of the usual place.

It will be, you can consider those two episodes as a pre pilot before the real pilot that will include the Discovery.

What is with all this technology? A spacesuit that is also a form of transport and has technology that isn't in any EV suit we have seen in additional Star Trek series. Additionally, a First Officer who seems to have the ability to do everything?
Not finished watching the first episode as I write this, but I'm not impressed so far.

I am so deeply bothered by the detractors forming the incessant "anti-discovery" group I'm seeing around the internet. LeVar Burton himself even said in a recent interview (unrelated to Discovery) that Star Trek formed the basis for a lot of technology we use today (including a visor-like device that's on the way to connecting the blind to the visual world, and tablets that resemble the PADDs of TNG). So what is so wrong with the new Star Trek pushing the envelope just a bit farther to dare modern science to take the next step? Virtually each iteration of Star Trek, in some form or another, has provoked the launch of a similarly inspired form of technology, no matter how subtle. To argue against the presentation of technology in Discovery when, by comparison, the best technology could produce on the set of the enterprise 50 years ago was wrapped in freaking CARDBOARD is just plain silly and juvenile. As Trek fans, I would expect the community to embrace the same level of change through the same fresh set of eyes through which our favorite characters discovered "strange new worlds."
Get a grip, folks. This isn't the 1960s, anymore, and the 23rd century in which our successors live will likely look far more marvelous than what we see on our must-have 4k televisions via our high-speed streaming devices.

The problem is the decided to make it a prequal, if they wanted to add newer technology that hasn't been seen in TOS and after, then they should have made a sequel that happens post-Nemisis.
Additionally, the main character, is so unlikable.
It's as if they have decided to form a 3rd timeline.

People have a very narrow view of what they consider true Star Trek. The sad thing is these people bash every Trek series for not being like the last one. Only to support the current when another version comes out. You see the same behavior when super heroes get cast, people loose their mind. then a few years later they think of that movie as the defining representation of that character.
Chill out people, enjoy the show for what it is, a modern version of Star Trek.

Post nemesis would have been the easiest way to go, however Hollywood is stuck in a prequel state of mind.
I really enjoy the characters on the show, including its star. Given her Vulcan upbringing, she will likely need time to become more likable.
A lot of Trek characters start of as D-bags, but after awhile, they redeem them selves.

I disagree, I have never disliked a character this much since Wesley Crusher and he never redeemed himself for me, found him exceptionally annoying. Generally speaking, my opinions of characters didn't change much from the first episode, I either liked them or disliked them from day one.

As a Canadian, guess I am just a little friendlier
I hated Kira, Picard and Odo to name a few. I found them rude and unlikable, but with time as they developed I grew to love them all.

I agree with you Three. Unless there is a drastic event and change, usually characters don't change much. Now if Wesley became a borg... maybe.
As for the main character, I never felt her acting was "good". Passable, perhaps. I didn't like her in TWD (Walking Dead) and I didn't like her in the pilot. It may not be her at all, but the writers or the characters she is cast for. She just seems pretty flat (personality and depth wise) as an actress to me. But mostly, she is far from likeable (my opinion) and if I can't find a reason to like a character, I become indifferent and not care about them. That indifference becomes irritation when they are forced upon me the entire time. Then... we're taking rage, of the nerd variety to be clear.
You know that whole, "Hate leads to Anger and Anger leads to Suffering" deal. Well... just like how Anakin and JarJar were forced upon me in the Prequels... I think Burnham is heading to join Anakin and Jar Jar for me.
For a general show, it was "ok". Worth the hassle of subscription and un-subscription? Not only a no but a Heck No (notice the bold and caps!). Am I sad I won't see it until it flops, Nope, not at all. I'm indifferent to it.
I won't lie, but Tain... when I saw "Hate Picard" in your sentence, I felt like Worf for a fraction of a second and thought I would have to hurt you. But all was forgiven when you said you loved Picard.

They seem to want to completely reboot Star Trek....the EV suit looks more like a suit of battle armor, like they went for the *cool* factor than actually trying to make it look like a ST EV suit. Then you have these holocommunicators, which is something that wasn't even put in use till the Dominion Wars. Then you have some kind of Android or Robot, when Data was the first artificial being to graduate from Starfleet Academy. These ships look nothing at all like the era they belong in, the Shenzhou looks almost as if it is a design that looks like it fits in the STO timeline, not hundreds of years before it, don't even get me started on the Discovery itself.
Then we got the Commander, she assaults her Captain, commits mutiny, and lies, yet honestly anyone who did that would spend the rest of their life in chains...but she doesn't. This new half sister of Spock's, probably one of the few things I can let go since Sybok just suddenly popped up one day. What was with all of this Number 1, it's like they were trying to force it down our throats...trying to make us think of TNG just to remind people that they weren't happy with it at the start just to evoke a emotion of forgiveness towards STD.
Honestly it feels like people basically are willing to sell their souls and the souls of Star Trek and completely ignore all the obvious canon breaking offenses, and offenses in general just to get Star Trek back on the small screen.
Star Trek was about looking to the future with hope, this show looks to the past with darkness and grit. It's like the opposite of what the soul of Star Trek is,
Edit: I almost laughed at how she killed that Klingon, "Ooops I bumped into you and now you're dead" How the heck could she have possibly impaled him without impaling herself, not to mention he would have to be holding what I assume was supposed to be a batleth at such a weird angle to be impaled by it. I mean he'd literally have to be having one of the blade tips to his chest for her to just thrust at him and be able to impale him like that.
