EPISODE DISCUSSION: CHOOSE YOUR PAIN

The episode first airs on the 15th October for American viewers and the 16th for international viewers.

Calling it now, Stammets will be the damn dirty mutant of the week in an episode or two.

Saru was kind of a tool this week, but at least he managed to realize that, so maybe there's hope he won't be insufferable forever.

I am done with it, I was willing to give it a chance but what they have done with the D7, enough is enough how the hell will a Connie look.

I had to look up D7 to see what it means. Wasn't it a simple cardboard model in TOS? I'm guessing it has a few more pixels now.

To be fair, we never got a real clean look at it.

I always thought the D7 was a starfleet designation for Klingon ships which isn't uncommon. In TNG for example they referred to the D'deridex warbird as a B-Type warbird.

It's possible that D7 refers more to the size of a ship than an actual class.

I can't remember a single episode when a D'deridex Class Warbird was called that way, and in all episodes they used the real class names of ships and not a Starfleet designation.

I loved the episode, and laughed pretty hard at the first ever Star Trek "F" Bomb(s). Am I the only one who thinks the guy Lorca rescued will be some sort of double/sleeper agent? Could he be the Albino Klingon made to look human, to destroy them from within? I also think the Klingon female captain will become some sort of Batman two-face villain.

I enjoyed the episode, it was quite good to get the focus on Lorca and flesh his character out a bit.

The Klingon ships are radically different to what we're used to. Starfleet vessels still maintain a traditional look and design, but they're veering off a lot on the Klingon front. I don't mind a visual reboot, but I wouldn't have pegged it as a Klingon ship without having been told it was.

Michael Burnham is, quite frankly, boring. Despite being the central character, she's unlikable, uninteresting and generally seems to be all over the place on what she's meant to be and do. This was a pretty poor episode for the character, so they need to do something to keep us paying attention to her in the coming weeks. Hell, Tyler, who is a regular cast member and only appeared for the first time tonight is already shaping up to be quite interesting despite only having a fraction of the screen time to date.

This was so f***ing cool!

The first (to my recollection) ever f-bombs in Star Trek did make me and the husband giggle!

Saru was a knob, Burnham was dull as dishwater, Stamets act of self-sacrifice was predictable but I loved how that turned out, we haven’t seen the last of Mudd or that Klingon captain and there’s definitely something not right about that rescued crewman...
