I guess I'll ask here: someone has sent me a PM concerning a "condition" of sorts for their character. This had me thinking: from a counselor perspective, having personal/private information would not only be confidential (to a degree) but would also assist A'Mand in her duty toward the individual, maybe even for the crew and ship.

Having said that, if you feel A'Mand (and ultimately the story) would benefit by having some details about your character very few (or no one else) would know, then please send me a PM. To be sure, just because the information is shared does not mean it has to (or will) be used, per se. So, this is certainly not a necessity and some things or ideas are best saved for the sake of story-telling.

Hmmm, I think when you write a personal file, it is more for the other members of the crew outside of character to better understand your character. But I also think that if you want to go that extra RP mile you can make it a CL4-CL5 thing.

Yet, the PM had me looking over the other files. Recognizing that characters can have multiple layers, there may be something that was not shared or revealed by some. I know I didn't make A'Mand's profile comprehensive, but intentionally made surface-level notes because I plan (or hope) to flesh out the character along the way. Others may want to do the same, yet a Counselor (maybe the Captain) is also privy to some layers that may (or may not) be available to others regardless of her CL, I think.

Hello. I submitted an addition on the forum last night (hope that's O.K.) for an Operations officer than can be listed in the open positions on the roster.

I have a couple other ideas for characters I'd also be happy to contribute :-)

haha for clarification, it was me. We mentioned it in earlier posts, about possible crew members suffering from PTSD from the war. I was wondering how PTSD would affect certain crew members, though this should be a pretty peaceful mission of exploration haha.

We know that other ST characters have suffered PTSD, such as Seven of Nine, Marla Gilmore, and Neelix, not to mention the new Discovery crew. B'Elanna Torres also suffered from survivor's guilt.

I think our bios are expected to be used both ways, as insight to each other's characters, as well as part of the RP function of the game.

I want to invite people to check out my bio to help flesh out my character, too. I don't want want him to be a typical science officer; I'm trying to break the stereotypical molds, making him more unique and all that, especially after the war. If you see anything fishy, or have any questions, it won't hurt my feelings at all and I'm very comfortable with critique, so don't worry.

It'll also help build each other's character's up if we take input. If you're not use to that, don't do it haha I don't want people to get their feelings or take anything personal.

My goal is to make my character have experiences from the war that now make him struggle with his original nature. How this is coming about, I'm not sure, but PTSD seems to be building in my mind.

If the character was the only survivor on a starship, and the character had many friends on the ship then you can expect things like the character to be very aggressive to sympathy from others, more solitary and very secluded. They would appear emotionless from the outside but inside they would be a wreck. Especially if the character prefers to hold in his/her feelings. This could lead to violent outbursts or other behaviours that follow suit.


With characters who are well known for being resilient, it may be slightly different. They may choose instead to drink away their problems. As a majority of Australian military personnel come back with PTSD and a majority of that develop severe drinking problems. Generally speaking, almost anyone who gets PTSD from war comes back with several shell shock, personality change and paranoia. Paranoia will be especially interesting to see being played out on a starship.

It would be a great idea to have a PTSD character because that would mean that both the ship's counsellor and CMO would have to try and treat the character.

So good idea you lot! I think it will fit right in and make the story many times better than it already is!

Lucky you, my character has a degree of PTSD. As I mentioned in his bio, he is a Dominion War veteran and has gone through a lot of combat at an early age. I won't reveal too much about its affects on him yet but he gets unsettled when he's near areas where he participated in combat or was sent to after combat.

You should have applied as mentioned on the first post of this thread. I will add you to the second Operations/Engineering/Tactical open position, but please follow the rules next time (there are only a few, not constraining )
