I'm wondering what this means for Star Trek, its cool to learn now all rights of Star Trek would be under one entity - should this merger ever happen, but what will they do with this further?

Also, what would this mean for STO and Cryptic/Perfect World itself?

For STO itself, it should (in theory) open up a few doors for content as the way the licence is structured currently, Cryptic are free to use whatever they want from the TV shows side of the thing and they have access to the movies up until Nemesis, but anything that's appeared in the Kelvin timeline (or future planned movies) they have to negotiate the use of those separately - they did this for Star Trek and Into Darkness, but nothing from Star Trek Beyond appears or is otherwise referenced in-game as they're not allowed to touch it.

If the merger goes though, then it should expand the licence agreement to allow free reign for any future movie content to be used without much fuss.

This is my hope. Beyond uniforms and the beyond Connie parts would be sweet.

The uniforms would be lovely, there's a lot of demand for the survival uniform worn by Kirk and Chekov to be added and I quite like the updated design of the standard duty uniforms too.

Well, it seems like it would help avoid destroying canon, by bringing the movies and television shows in synch. Like the article says, it just makes sense, like the MCU trying to bring all of their properties back under one umbrella.

It would also make for some interesting and inventive movies in the future, that could draw from all sources of canon.

I really hope.this happens from a gamer point of view, as it may make it more likely for some of the older games to see a rerelease

I would love to see a new Elite Force, but in the Enterprise timeline where you play a member of the M.A.C.O. unit deployed on one of the NX-class ships during the Earth-Romulan War. I would prefer it to be NX-01 Enterprise, but I wouldn't be against an entirely different ship with a new crew either.
