So, how does everyone feel about our stowaway? Does anyone want to write for him/her every now and then? Do you guys just want to write the character in randomly into your own stories whenever you want?
We might use the stowaway as a deus ex machina, a plot device to get the story going if we get stuck, someone secretly protecting the ship and crew, a comedic device or the eventual bad guy.

I'm sure that Ensign Relor might hear someone shuffling about in jefferies tubes now and again while doing his maintenance rounds. But that could just be another work crew, right?
With a brand new crew and all the civilian families they're bringing with them it'd probably be hard to spot a stowaway. I guess just the senior officers might know if there was a security breach at the Ares' docking pylon at DS9?

In my opinion, it would be almost impossible for a stowaway to get onto the Ares. But I still like the idea of it being a part of all our stories. I think it would be far more realistic if a stowaway was on DS9, this makes sense as we see countless times Quark smuggling in illegal items, maybe this person of interest has a history with Quark or another Ferengi, possibly even the Orion Syndicate.
I think that we can use it as our first mock mission before we leave DS9 we can help locate the stowaway.
I also want to say on a side note that your story was very, very well written and I liked every bit of it, so congratulations!

Okay, I can see a stowaway hopping on from DS9, trying to get away from Orion Syndicate or the Gamma Quadrant. Right, I think of Quark, too.
Don't forget the Jem'Hadar "...had the ability to "shroud" themselves, a form of camouflage that acted as a personal cloaking field, effectively hiding them and their weapons from both sensors and the naked eye. (DS9: "The Jem'Hadar", "The Abandoned")"
http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Jem'Hadar
"When they used the shroud, the immediate area in which they stood would turn dark, then become almost perfectly transparent. Only the most observant individuals could see the slight shifts in light as the Jem'Hadar moved about in their shrouded condition. (DS9: "To the Death")"
http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Shroud
Originally, "...the ability to shroud was regulated by the presence of ketracel-white. Jem'Hadar who endured prolonged periods without the drug eventually lost their ability to shroud. Such a degeneration in their abilities signaled severe withdrawal from the addiction to ketracel-white, and indicated that death was not far off. (DS9: "Rocks and Shoals")"
http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Shroud
This we could change, having our Cardassian/Jem'Hadar stowaway using the shroud without needing the ketracel-white anymore. Maybe he/she found a way to use the tri-nucleic fungi on Kabrel I to automatically generate ketracel-white in his/her body? Or, medically found how to wean off of it?
If the stowaway gets on from DS9, I don't want anyone to know, yet; it's too early. I'd like the stowaway to stay hidden, making a nest somewhere haha and no one know. He/she could be in the background doing whatever and the crew doesn't know, yet, but we could still write it happening.
haha thank you very much, that's really cool, I appreciate that.

I'd suggest one of our Ares Staff members. A nice and fun perk for them to spice up things whenever needed.
As for the who/what this mysterious person is, I wouldn't make it overly complex, as that would be hard to maintain or continue. Sometimes a simple, yet overlooked reason can be enough of a seed, as opposed to a full grown tree, to watch and see grow into something really neat.
That's my suggestion at least.
P.S. Enjoying everyone's different arrival and starting stories.

So I had a little 80s thing going on the drive to work this morning (yeah, so sue me ). As I was listening to Huey Lewis and the News sing "Walking On A Thin Line", in my head I kept going back to all the PTSD being discussed earlier in this thread, and was like, "Hell, this is practically the Ares' theme song!"

It's funny, when I was 14, that was just, "Song with some damn catchy hooks." Sometimes it takes me a few, um, years to really start listening to lyrics.
Hey, something I just want to confirm. As a LTJG, in conversation, the correct form of address would be for instance, "Lieutenant Cole," right? It's my understanding that like, in modern USN, you wouldn't address me as "Lieutenant JG Cole". That sound right?

I believe yes. When speaking to or referring to someone with their rank, it would be just "Lieutenant Cole". Same for Lieutenant Commander, they would call you "Commander Cole".
Additionally, non-Commanding Officers, like supervisors/dept heads/bridge officers, can be referred to as "Mister" or "Miss". Ex: Mr. Worf.
For Petty Officers, non-Chiefs, you refer to them as "Crewman". Ex: Crewman Han, even though she is a PO2C.

What I'm finding on Google for LCDR is saying you actually would use the full rank name, e.g. "Lieutenant Commander Smith." That said, two caveats. 1) What the hell do I know, and 2) if that conflicts with other standards already in place here, I'm fine with going by what's already established.
