Will You Take My Hand?

This thread is for pre and post episode discussion of the 15th episode and season finale, Will You Take My Hand?. If you do not wish for spoilers, then you have missed all the warnings in the title and activity stream, shocking! So if you are reading this post, then you should turn away now.

The episode first airs on the 11th Febuary for American viewers and the 12th Febuary for international viewers.

Of course, it would not be Star Trek if there were no Enterprise. She had to make an appearance eventually. May as well be now. The real question is... who's going to be the next captain?

I was feeling pretty meh about the finale, and then the Enterprise showed up! Very nice way to end the season! I'm hopeful for what's to come next season, but not unrealistically so. I still don't trust the writers, or CBS. It does seem like they are trying to bend back towards classic Star Trek canon though. I also don't mind how they handled Mirror Georgiou, leaving room for her to have recurring pain in the a** roles in the future, kind of like Harry Mudd. The resolution of the war was way too simplistic though, which has been a consistent problem this season. Burnham's speechifying was too preachy and self-important for my liking, more like the insincere type of speech that a politician running for office would make, but...whatever...Enterprise showed up in a beautifully shot final scene! That helped me to forgive many of this shows sins. So, I'm ready to see what they've got next season!

They’ve not really tinkered too much with the Enterprise design which is pleasing to see, they’ve done what I thought they would and just darkened the hull texture and added a bit of detailing so it doesn’t look as plain as we’re used to. Yes, the nacelle pylons are a bit different and the shuttlebay has had a tweak, but in all, they seem to have kept themselves in check and drawn on the refit Constitution for inspiration.

Let’s see what Season 2 brings. Please don’t make Burnham the Captain (as a character, she’s still quite un-likeable and dull) - that’s a job that belongs to Saru. I do have a funny feeling though we’re going to see an entirely new Captain appear however.

That, description could fit a LOT of Starfleet captain's speeches, though, especially Picard, so it does kinda fit.
I agree that the Enterprise looked nice, though I wonder if we'll see Spock (I THINK Pike was the captain from The Cage/Menagerie which would make Spock his science officer, but I can't honestly remember). The resolution to the war was a bit meh to me as well, but the end of the war and the season seemd a bit hurried. We spent some time in the mirror universe, and had our fun, but now that we're back, we have a very strict deadline, so can't actually fittingly wrap things up; just have to make them stop.

Ultimately, I thought the episode was quite dull, the end of the Klingon war was a bit too easy and the speech Burnham gave didn’t really make sense from someone in her position. A bit anti-climactic overall, and why, why feel the need to change the ♥♥♥♥ING ENTERPRISE!?

Hey ho, they were going to. And sadly Saru is not Captain of the Discovery. I am keen to see who is playing Pike, but meh...not particularly happy.

Rant over. It has been an interesting ride to say the least, I will keep watching as it is Star Trek, I am just not happy with the direction of the show. Now that the Klingon War is over, they are going to need to tread carefully with the story as anything that comes now, needs to fit in with everything else. Will see.

After some reflection, I know that the series has been good, it is just a shame I have to ignore everything that came before it for it to fit in. I do think this Enterprise looks cool, but it still messes with everything. Whilst the episode was anti-climatic, it was ok and I do look forward to seeing what comes from the next series, I just hope they don't make it it's last one. We will see.

I really enjoyed the episode from start to end. I was worried about the crew being stuck behind enemy lines with a cliff hanger episode, mostly because it is rumored we won't get season 2 for 12 months or more. while they did tie up the war pretty quickly, i felt satisfied. Hopefully we'll see Ash again.

I have a feeling Killy and a few others survived, and will at some point rejoin the emperor.

As for the ending, I'm guessing Pike has just recently taken over from Robert April, as Pike only commanded the Enterprise for 8-10 years before Kirk, and they have stated we are 10 years or so before he takes command. At which point Spock joins his crew as science officer, I don't know. However given the reaction Sarek and Micheal gave, I would assume he is there now.

I can't wait to see what happens next!

Final comment: Please please add the "Discovery" model of the Constitution class to STO I'd pull mine out of mothballs once more

It looks like they look at the TMP version and the concept art for the NX-01 refit. Looks beautiful, and seamless. I don't think they could have done a better job

I loved it and the fact that they willingly started the season very "not Star Trek" in order to drive the point of "we lost our way" home is simply brilliant.

Dozens of friends stopped watching it for that reason and now I keep telling them to finish the season, that it will make sense.
