If it's on Netflix, I'll probably watch it just because I have a Netflic account, but not really too excited, unless they do some major work on getting some good plots...

That's an opinion shared by many.
Not me, but many!
I thought this was an interesting bit from the article:
Showrunners Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts explained to the crowd that Star Trek: Discovery season 2 will edge away from “the backdrop of war” and into a “more exploratory phase and a more diplomatic phase”, steadily becoming “a bit more of a Trekian chapter.”
I think that bodes well.
And the article also confirms that Discovery is in the prime timeline!
After fielding several questions from the audience about the continuity of the show, Harberts went on to confirm that Discovery is inded in the Prime Timeline, and that season 2 will reveal a bit more about how that stitches up to our current knowledge of Trek history:
“The idea was to always be in the Prime Timeline. Obviously, there are questions and concerns and things that are different. Our technology is a little different. We have a ship that runs very differently. We are our own show in a lot of ways. Season two is really exciting for us. This is our opportunity to really show how Discovery fits into this Prime Timeline. We are firmly committed to that.”
He also added that we may well see an inevitable uniform change for the crew of the Discovery in season 2. “Well, we bump up against the Enterprise at the end of our [season one] finale, and we know what kind of uniforms they wear. So, we will leave it at that.”
All in all this sounds like "we heard you, we'll make it more Star Trek in Season 2!"

Were people making a fuss about the uniforms?
Personally, I'd rather see them move away from those trash mobs out of Buffy the Vampire Slayer that someone accidentally labeled as Klingons and then decided to keep running with it to cover up their mistake.

Everyone got something different out of Discovery, that's for sure, but two of the factors that really put me off was having a single story over the whole thing, and not really focusing on developing each member of the crew. They did start to go into character development towards the end, so I hope that keeps up.
I know from the start they were saying it was going to be in the prime timeline, which is fine, but it's less about that and more about the story and character development that bothered me.

I have an issue with what he said there about the uniforms, specifically the "We saw the Enterprise and we know what uniforms they were wearing..." Uh no we don't. We know what they're going to be wearing TEN YEARS from now when Kirk is in command, that does't mean they're wearing those uniforms on the Enterprise now, or did he forget that the show is set 10 years before TOS? This is no reason why the whole of Starfleet apart from the Enterprise crew would be wearing the TOS uniforms unless that Enterprise is from the future...but then again I wouldn't put it past them to do just that.

Actually, I believe we do know...or can surmise, at least.
Christopher Pike was Captain of the Enterprise from 2252-2264, and we do know what uniforms were being worn at some point during this period, because the original Pilot (footage of which was subsequently used as part of the episode "The Menagerie) of Star Trek takes place during Pike's tenure. It is a variant of the TOS uniforms we came to know with the addition of that gray expedition jacket they wore on the away mission to Talos IV.
While we don't know when those uniforms were adopted by Starfleet, exactly...it can, I believe, therefore be easily written in that the uniforms were introduced immediately following the end of the war with the Klingons, and were disseminated to the fleet beginning with the flagship, the Enterprise. This could explain the Enterprise crew already wearing the uniforms at the beginning of S2 of Discovery (assuming that they do, which we might not know until the show airs next year.)

True but even though it can easily be written, like you said we don't know when they were introduced only that at some point during Pike's time on the Enterprise those uniforms were introduced, however in the context he stated it and the timeframe in which the show ended, like you said we don't know that that's what they're wearing.
Also just because that's what they will eventually wear, personally I don't think they have to go there straight away, if anything if they did I think that would be a weak point for the show. One: The Discovery uniforms are pretty good already.
Two: Each show so far has had their own uniform, DS9 had to change theirs because they updated them for the TNG movies and so it made sense that they would, just like how it made sense that Voyager didn't because they hadn't been in the Alpha Quadrant at the time the change happened and didn't know about it (although they could have changed them after they re-established contact with Starfleet but that's another topic entirely)
Third: Personally I think it would smell of desperation, it would be them essentially going "Look see, this is the Star Trek you know." Especially this early in the show's run, let it stand on it's own with it's own look without immediately trying to close the gap. If they're going to change the uniform, at least permanently then save it for the final season or two of the show to tie it into TOS.

I'm kinda hoping they introduce some of the ships we read about but never actually saw on screen, like the dreadnought or the Miranda Class of that period.

I'm with Three concerning story: make it episodic. It's worked for ST for decades. The series format has been done and (I think) some opportunities were missed for that reason.
It's likely a catch-22 for all Star Trek fans, so they'll have to live with reaching a majority of them. New fans are in no matter what happens.

I personally like the continuing story arcs, I think if used correctly they could develop characters further, the trouble with the last season I felt it was rushed and they could have further developed each of the plot points more rather than thinking how are we going to cram a war into 15 episodes!
I think the episodic approach worked well for some time but it’s clear that the newer fans appreciate the ongoing nature of the story, it gives you the power as the watcher to buy into the ongoing story and see what happens next rather than it being a dip your toe in and dip out again as it was before.

I think it's possible to have the best of both worlds, (pardon the pun), you can have an overreaching plot arc and still have room for individual stories and character development. Whether it is something the writers will adopt is another matter entirely. I really hope that they don't go for the Big Bad of the season approach and commit to a long term storyline that will take a couple of series to resolve a bit like the dominion war in DS9 or the Shadow war in B5.
As long as they continue to improve the writing and tone down the slightly garish colour palette of the space graphics. If they're serious about convincing us that it's set in prime timeline, the best way would be to tone down the lens flare. It's a lazy technique that has been overused for ages now. Sure impress me with graphics but don't hide all your great work behind bright lights.

This may not be the place for this, but thought I'd share...
Not sure this will work for everyone, but as a long time Star Trek fan I came up with my own view of why Discovery, although in the same time period of the Enterprise (under Christopher Pike), looks so much different from the TOS episodes we all grew to love. Read on if you're interested and feel like trying to understand my view point. Note, this doesn't solve every discrepancy, but I think helps.
Caveat, I have and always shall love the Original Series for what it is. I have enjoyed (almost) everything Star Trek.
The Problem As I See It...
The TOS was a great TV series, but was limited by what the team could dream would be possible and available technologies in the 60's. I imagine a bit of the tech that is used in the Star Trek: Discovery series are beyond what was thought to be possible in the 60's--perhaps even technologies we use today may fall in that category. Our dreams and imagination have expanded since then partly due to the love of Star Trek and looking further. Thus we get productions like Discovery and the new Star Trek movies (dubbed "JJTrek").
My View
My view is that the TOS series was more of a recreation of redacted government documents that didn't show all the technologies that really were actually available for the general public to see and understand without going into a lot of the flashy stuff. Star Trek: Discovery is actually the true documents showing (most) everything, updated with what things actually may have looked like. It's like viewing the two series with very different lenses (one redacting a lot of the info while the other not).
The newer Star Trek movies (JJTrek) I think went too far in that direction trying more to recreate the universe than just give it an updated look. (I liked these movies for what they were even with that thought.) Discovery I feel is that "happy medium" staying truer to the prime universe without actually recreating it through some temporal anomaly.
Again, this doesn't explain everything--and I may not be explaining very well either, but... those are my thoughts/view.

Some behind the scenes shots for S2 of Discovery. (might be region blocked for some?)

Looks like we are getting some red and gold uniforms for some nice continuity with the TOS ones. And i think i saw some sort of cross-over TOS corridor there too near the end?
Looks good anyway.
