Hello UFP gaming family,
I'm Scott "Tavs" the new guy in town and usually like to dive-in full throttle and be an active part to any community I have interest in, with this said I would like to introduce a game Chronicles of Elyria being developed by Soulbound Studios that I been following for the past couple of years as it started off as a Kickstarter (crowd sourced funded) MMORPG project and has seen many positive milestones come to fruition since then and look forward to the continued contributions the amazing development team produces until anticipated game launch in 2019.
The Kickstarter-versary is Here Again! This is by far the best time to have the opportunity to become a backer of this game and take advantage of the many unique buy-in options that are only presented during a short period of time.
I truly look forward to developing a UFP team hopefully in the near future if significant interest in the community is present! Please feel free to share your thoughts!

Very interesting.
My main hesitation with this is that the full release is a year and a half away, not counting the probable delays. Personally, I've been burned by handing over money up front with gaming.
Firefall, Battletech, Star Citizen. I need to see more before I jump into anything like that.
Love your enthusiasm for it though and that definitely put it on my radar.

Thanks for taking a look Tatchi, I can totally understand and the fact you backed Star Citizen makes sense as I too had this on my radar but was already dumping money into the LotRO store so in a sense I was broke!
I will definitely keep you in the loop with how the game progresses!

Nice to have a fellow backer here, I'm currently backing at the Mayor level... Not going any further as I'm not looking to be spending the majority of the time in the land management interface I will custom tailor my package with micro purchases instead.
I'm hesitant myself too. I've seen to many player driven games promises just to be disappoint with the end result. Archeage and black desert just to name a couple.
I'll keep you posted Bar'ol, They have frequent Q&A sessions and Caspian does live feeds on Discord when he is coding, don't understand half the crap he is talking about but still fascinating to experience.

Wow, this is crazy. I don't normally follow crowd sourced funded games but obviously thier has been many disappointment... Chronicles of Elyria caught my attention as I long for an MMO game that bring me back to my SWG days detailed crafting extensive worlds and real community functionality!

Yeah, Archeage wasn't really a crowd source, but a Korean (XL Games) port to NA/EU by Trion. Suffice to say, Trion made/still makes a lot of horrible decisions in running in. Mainly the rampant and obvious hacks/cheats without any enforcement is finally what got me to throw in the towel. Indeed BDO was another, and the about face on Pay-to-Win thing.
As for Chronicles, I have definitely been following it but there are way too many 'unknowns' in regards to how things will work out.
1) Offline mode. When you log out, your character remains online in a scripted (set by you) mode to do stuff. Does this mean someone can come and grief you (kill you, etc) when you are not even in control? I bet there will be tons of instances of this as people find exploits.
2) Totally Open world leans to totally horrible griefing mechanics. Devs say you can be a farmer, merchant, crafts, etc yet there will be those who love to troll and will just go about killing and what not for "fun". I've read that they will be "policed" by the land rulers (mayors, barons, dukes, kings, etc). How does that work? I'm sure people want to invest $100 or Euros just to be griefed with no real recourse in-game.
3) Rulers. Pay-to-Rule. Ok, so they paid $1000, $5000, or $10,000 (or Euro equiv). Yet, again, we all know that absolute power will corrupt absolutely. Just because people paid more for a higher class or position... does that mean they can dictate the way I play or can enjoy my game-time? Like in Archeage when you allow players to establish taxes, they are always excessive and/or they have total control of my property (i.e. they can destroy or remove my farm/house/etc).
4) Graphics. The environment does look very up-to-date by current standards. The character art... has me wondering though. Mainly for the "non-human" races. We only have seen art on them. The human characters (displayed in character creation demo) are interesting, but so far we're only seeing the base. Clothing, armor, etc have had a few examples. Suffice to say, for myself... I need very good graphics to keep me interested. Not a game breaker, but will determine how hard I plan to jump in.
5) Unknowns. Too many unknowns. From what exactly do the items you get from packages actually mean to how skills will work, combat for those who strive to be more economically driven, how much sway will rulers have, etc.
I've read a lot of the concepts and think they sound truly amazing... I'm just pragmatic when it comes to investing a $100 or so into a game without knowing how things will work between players in a game that is supposed to be run by players near completely.

This reminds me of Age of Wushu. How its setup is depending on what vip/time you were the jobs you would receive as a offline player and the reward you got from it. This could be from npc currency, training points to spend on training and what not, and etc.

Yeah... while I was getting these pages google was telling other games people were searching for, wanna take a guess?

*need to add what type of jobs there were*
Type of jobs would be trader, farmer, patroller guard (depending on where you logged out you join the city guard if at a normal town or temple guard if logged out at your school), I think there is another but cant remember.
Oh one tib bit other players could rob these offline players and steal their earnings haha. Ahhh great game come to think about it. Might log in now LOL.

I can guarantee with any game exploits will manifest and make an unpleasant experience with the gaming community, but as for myself I have accepted the fact that this will happen and hope the developers work quickly to remedy the mechanic that causes the issue. What I find to be a positive with CoE is that the creator and development team are thinking the same way and are already looking to mitigate this issue.

I have watched various Q&A sessions that touched on this as community stake holders and potential investors such as yourself have been very vocal on this subject matter and the creator and development team are committed to making the most fair but realistic experience for the gaming community.
An example the game social dynamics proposed would make it clear that the activities are not supported and make it undesirable to continue to play CoE. I for one would not want to be potentially penalized buy having to pay $25 (estimated cost of a spark) day just so I could be malicious, additionally if this is the players continued intent the kingdom would bar you from any civilized town and again the game dynamics would be unfavorable to anyone with continued negative intentions.

I can totally see your point here and this also is a hot topic that has been in some points a heated discussion, however it is been pointed out in various topic threads of games that had similar social dynamics such as taxation and divine powers of the rules that the game ultimately died a slow painful death. and I think Caspian has been listening as he has commented in length with dissentient commentators.

4) Graphics. The environment does look very up-to-date by current standards. The character art... has me wondering though. Mainly for the "non-human" races. We only have seen art on them. I'm totally stoked with the graphic quality so far! The gaming engines they elected to use are impressive, Unreal for gaming world creation and Soulborn to drive primary game mechanics.
5) Unknowns. Too many unknowns. From what exactly do the items you get from packages actually mean to how skills will work, combat for those who strive to be more economically driven, how much sway will rulers have, etc.
Well with a little imagination and passion for something that you desire to have greatness anything is possible, for the packages they do have an overview of what they do and expand on Exposition Points.

Good info, but still would like to see more concrete information on how things will work in "Offline" mode. The below is from their explanation.
Since your character stays in the world even when you sign off, your character will continue to age as an OPC. That also means that, yes, it is possible for your character to die while you're offline. We recommend either signing off in a safe place, utilizing Behaviors that know how to respond effectively to danger, or hiring other characters to act as guards.
Aging if/when I play is one thing. Aging when I'm not is something entirely different. If I don't play the game for a period of time, I come back and my character is old or dead is kind of penalizing me for not playing. Another reason why I am still on the fence.
Hiring other players to be your guards? Like how will that work... not well is what I think until I see some mechanics on how it will work. How many stories have I heard or witnessed in Archeage of your guards turning to pirates during your trade pack runs. People will do anything they want, especially in a game where they have no real tangible consequence for criminal actions. If I was still in school and had to write a psychology or sociology paper, MMOs would be such a vast and rich topic to right on the base human nature that occurs due to anonymity.
I do find this kind of neat and interesting. It is much better than Archeage's or BDO's justice systems. Of course, I do believe there will be a way of exploiting this. Either a mayor getting bored or looking for some coin providing sanctuary to certain outlaws. I guess what I am really curious about in such a Pay-For-Rank society, is the regular $30 players seem to virtually at the mercy of players who have payed more $$$. Human nature being what it is... and the game world touting such player control and rule, leaves much to be desired as I have seen and witnessed the cesspools of how that can turn out in Archeage, BDO, and some others.
There are indeed some very interesting aspects of player society and community setting the tone, but there are quite a few game-killer ones too. Especially in a pay to play game.
Graphics so far for character creation are promising. I just want to see more. Show the other 8 races and how they will actually look. Show more how clothing and armor will work and look. Stuff like that are important for aesthetics. As, any true MMO player knows, the *TRUE* end game is the Glamour game (i.e. transmorg). It is certainly why FFXIV has held my attention for so long.

Aging if/when I play is one thing. Aging when I'm not is something entirely different. If I don't play the game for a period of time, I come back and my character is old or dead is kind of penalizing me for not playing. Another reason why I am still on the fence.
Your correct, you will age while offline and possibly die if your away long periods of time (depending on various factors). I do not mind this as it will keep the server clear of inactive placeholders and also accepting that this is the way CoE will make money to keep content coming having this designed into this system.
I too will keep my eyes peeled for more information on this particular subject. Stay tuned, I will definitely be sharing on regular updates as they release!

As with any MMO, everything (well most things) you do improves your character. Skills and abilities... so you build up your skill in X and then for whatever reason, RL rears its typical head and roars at you. Six months later, you patch-up and re-log in to not only find your character dead. But destitute, your land/home/farm gone... not something that will get someone to 're-pay to play'. Especially when you only played two or three weeks, then had to deal with stuff for months before coming back to a game.
I guess the real bottom line to that is... when a game becomes like work, "I *HAVE* to login to take care of my farm/business/trade/dailies/etc", then it quickly loses its appeal. I do like some of the ideas for CoE, but I've been in way too many MMOs where we've seen things promised something to see a complete about-face some months later. Archeage and BDO are rife with examples of that.
I hate that I sound negative, but with many examples of even AAA big publisher games of being total flops for failing to deliver on their promises... a gamer needs to be informed and the developer needs to earn the trust of the gamer.

I would never look at this as negative as with any living person we have life obligations and differences in gaming styles, I think you know what you want unlike others who like to complain after the fact due to lack of research and partnering with a game development community to help shape the game that you know you'll have many years of enjoyment.
