True, from a certain point of view.

If memory serves me, it's 2256 during the first season of Discovery, though with the 9 month gap, it's 2257 by the time of the events taking place in the last episode. Given that the USS Enterprise is mentioned by Burnham, implying that it and the other Constitution class vessels have already been in service for a time and then it subsequently appears in the flesh so to speak, that by itself (to me anyway) put the whole Prime/Kelvin query to bed, as in the Kelvin Timeline, the class appeared about a decade behind the prime version and Enterprise wasn't commissioned and launched until 2258.

I think so, but I am not 100% sure what the Prime Timeline of Star Trek: Discovery is.
The 'Prime Timeline' is the timeline where shows Enterprise, Discovery, The Original Series, Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager, as well as all Original Series Movies, and all TNG Movies take place.

The Kelvin Timeline that was created with the 2009 Reboot movie includes Enterprise and the 3 Kelvin Timeline movies (Star Trek 2009, Into Darkness and Beyond). This timeline was created when the USS Kelvin was destroyed by the romulan mining ship Narada that traveled back in time from the 24th century, killing George Kirk, James Kirk's father, and spawning a new timeline.

Technology level in discovery is crazy advance vs original series. Even in the first episode using those hologram communications didnt happen till like season 5 or 6 of ds9, which was still stationary no moving around or interacting with environment. Then the view screen good grief that thing was crazy. Teleporter looked more advance but probably just a visual thing going on there. Hard for me to see this as prime with such advance technology.

Technology level in discovery is crazy advance vs original series.
The two shows were produced a half-century apart, of course, the visuals and the technology depicted are going to be different. Do you think that reproducing TOS exactly would appeal to new viewers just coming into Star Trek in this era where we have Sci-Fi shows like the BSG remake and The Expanse?

    I don't think so.

TOS Looked the way that it did because of the limitations of the real world technology of the time, on top of that, it was produced on a relatively small budget at the time. Even it's most expensive episode, "The City on the Edge of Forever", the most expensive of all episodes except the two pilots, cost $250,396 in 1967 ($1,878,314.86 in today's Quatloos).

Each episode of Discovery costs anywhere from $8 to $8.5 Million dollars. Each. You could produce an entire season of TOS on the budget of one Discovery episode.

This is where suspension of Disbelief comes into play.

I for one am just thankful that there's new Trek on TV to be enjoyed.

Even if that was the case of more money doesnt mean you cant follow timeline tech, just seems silly to me. Didnt seem to be a problem back then with low budget. Gene made it work. Tongue Out If thats the argument most have its really not that strong imo. We could use ST: Enterprise as a example this was the first ship with Archer. Their technology wasnt like TOS but it wasnt so far fetch like Discovery. Some of the items I listed in previous post I was talking about are out of alignment of when that technology was introduced in the other series.

One example I'll repeat here is the hologram communications that was intro in DS9 and was stationary they couldnt move around like in discovery. Does this make me hate the series? No, just out of wack haha. Then back to the orginal question of this thread is it part of prime timeline? Again I will say its hard to see it in prime with such advance technology that was introduced in the later series. Anywho, not going to make a bigger deal out of it.

Your last comment about it on tv made me chuckle a bit. If only it was on normal tv there wouldnt be so much backlash for it... maybe lol. Idk.

Without going in to the debate of the visual aspects of the show compared to earlier trek aka TOS

Discovery is based in the prime timeline (for now). they even said Season 2 the tie in to the prime timeline will be more clear.

Yeah for now i'll go along with it being prime universe/timeline and tbh i'm perfectly fine with that. The visuals might be different but tbh we know very little of the actually TOS era anyway as the show really only showed the point of view of one single ship in Starfleet with the odd appearance of a station or other friendly ship.
So we don't really have a lot to go on and if Disco can fill in some gaps in canon and provide some good entertainment i'm fine with that.

If only it was on normal tv there wouldnt be so much backlash for it... maybe lol. Idk.
