I think my concern is if the plan is to have the forum CO be the same as RP Captain, then advertising the position as open to applications is actually moot.
It's a possibility, but doesn't have to go that way. We got to see who gets the position, I think the CO and the Captain should be the same; it'll be easier on everyone. Someone just gets to write for the captain position.

The ARES CO doesn't have to be the Captain of the USS ARES. I'd prefer the Captain of the USS ARES to be the most passionate about telling the story and keeping the story moving.

Exactly. The CO and captain doesn't have to match. Let's say Kirk gets it, if he applied, he could stay as CMO or write as the captain, or we'll move Nesta up to captain while Kirk stays CMO and still CO. It could go any way. It's up to the new CO how they want to play it.
My two cents is that it'd be easier on the CO to also write as the captain, but then we'd have to find someone for whatever vacancy they leave behind in their previous position.

So I have been trying to catch up in order to join the RP and quickly realized that there is no captain and no CO so my first problem is where do I send my request to join to, if I can join as I am still trying to figure all of this out. Also amazing story so far.

How's this RP different than what you're use to? You read the Prelude, too? haha
I have seen most where people take turns in a rotation and everyone responds before moving to the next plot point. This first come first serve mixed up the time line a bit but the tags help and I enjoy the nonlinear story telling. I skimmed the pre and plan to go back after I catch up on ch 1.

I've gone ahead and linked it here for you and anyone else who may be interested in applying.
The list is the second post on that forum and includes all of the positions which have already been filled. You can look through and make up a knew position. For example, you can be a junior officer in the science or tactical department. Of positions which are currently listed as filled, the Chief of Engineering and Flight Control Officer (Helmsman) haven't posted in the role play at all so we'll need new people to take over.

Allan and Nesta could provide some 'cast' updates based on roles that were initially filled but have been MIA for quite some time.
I think the Engineering leadership/officers have been MIA. I'm sure there are others. Perhaps a roster update is due. At least see who is and who isn't around (or interested) anymore?

Right, some people don't respond for three or four weeks while other respond weekly. I don't want people to wait for others; it holds up the whole story and discourages people from playing. I rather have everyone respond every week, but this way, people can jump in and won't be responsible for holding anyone back. I ran into that on other RPs and didn't like it; the regulars never got to do anything haha

Kirk isn't a simulation officer haha it's just me and Nesta.

I am having the same trouble with my Assistant Nurse, Bugsy6, initially, she posted often during our time at DS9 but I have only seen a single post since, and that was only after I had to ask where she was and why she wasn't posting.
