I saw a preview of it by Scott Manley, it looked pretty cool!

If it's anything like Cities Skylines, I'll be getting it. Paradox knows how to make City Sims.

If it has the same level of modding support as well, you can bet that there will be a Star Trek conversation.

To be fair, Paradox didn't actually make City Skylines, they just published it, the same as this game...but this is being made by the same company that made the last three Tropico games.
Paradox publishing it is still a good sign though, their third party games have been awesome too!

So I just found this forum while digging through the site. I've been playing for a while and here are some impressions.

If you think this is like Cities: Skylines...you are not quite correct. Although there is the same idea of interlocking systems that lead toward growth, Surviving Mars takes the ideas to a whole new level. Remember: You are building a colony on a very inhospitable planet and if you aren't careful, you are going to kill a lot of sims very quickly. Air, water, power, and raw construction materials must be delicately balanced...because one miscalculation will cause a landslide of negative effects.

As with any complex sim...build SLOWLY and give your systems time to work themselves out. Plan ahead...placement of your buildings can be just as important as the order in which you build. Also make sure you account for what your building will consume BEFORE you use it. There is nothing more embarrassing than building a structure you can't open because you lack the power or water to open it.

And just when you finally have all your structures in fine balance...the colonists show up. Now you have a whole new level of strategy to work with. The people are individuals with their own strengths and weaknesses. Your decisions now multiply exponentially. Farm vs Movie theater. Factory vs Parkland. Casino? Not if one of your people is a gambling addict (Yes, its an actual trait). The decisions are endless...and the balance game begins all over again.

This game takes complexity to the next level. It pushes you to think and act...not just react.
