USS Ares
Bridge
“Acting Captain R’Turan this is Lieutenant Gytaik at Ops. Please report to the bridge, there is something here you need to see.”
He and the Acting Captain had just stepped onto the bridge when she contacted R'Turan. Teriir let out a small chuckle at the slight delay between his combadge and Gytaik's voice in the same room. Reminding himself that he was going to have to be the acting executive officer because of his rank at Lieutenant Commander, he walked over and joined her at the Ops console, "What have you found, Lieutenant?"
OOC: Teriir and R'Turan are both on the bridge now so I thought it would be appropriate to jump in.

USS Ares
Deck 7 - Hoods' Quarters
Allan Hood took a late lunch, with all the repairs still going on. Instead of heading to the officer’s mess, he wanted to stop in at his family’s quarters to check on Gracie after her battle with smoke inhalation. Though the doctors assured him that she was fully recovered, he had to keep checking on her for peace of mind.
“Gracie, how are you doing?” Allan called out after crossing the family’s threshold. “Gracie, you here?”
Allan knew that his wife, Sami-Jo, and youngest daughter, Donna, were not going to be home yet; Sami-Jo stayed late to finish her teacher duties with the baby. But, Gracie should be here.
“Computer, location of Grace Hood.” Allan ordered.
“Grace Hood is located in Holodeck 2.”
Immediately, Hood was furious and worried about his daughter. She should come straight home after school and not stop and play on the holodeck.
Amidst the anger of disobeying her father, there was another emotion sneaking in the shadows. Pride? Pride in what? That his six-year-old daughter has enough confidence in herself to be on holodeck alone? Allan buried the questions and marched to the holodeck.
USS Ares
Deck 8 - Holodeck 2
Allan stepped through the holodeck doors and into a dense forest at dusk. After a minute of his uniform getting caught on thorny vines and his head ducking branches, he had enough.
“Computer, negate tangibility.” With that, Allan was able to walk through the forest as if he was out of phase with his surroundings.
After about hundred meters, he found himself standing before an old Roman stone tower, shortly after nightfall. A crowd of peasants, men, women and children all stood around, excitedly. By the red glow from huge torch-baskets, Allan saw a king and his court assembled, gazing off towards the tower. The wind began to pick up.
There stood a small, curly blonde-haired girl on a low protective wall of earth and stone, along the top edge of a trench, probably used to hide troops during a battle.
“You want to burn me up and I didn’t even do anything wrong! You’re always trying to make me look bad to people, sooo, I’m going to call down fire and blow up your tower! But, I’m going to give you a chance to stop me with your magic and see if your magic is better than my magic!”
“I can, fair lady, and I will,” called an old man, grumpily. “Doubt it not.”
The old man drew a circle on the stones with his finger and began burning incense. Those closest to the performance stepped back and the crowd seemed to cross-themselves in unison. The old man began chanting and waving his arms in the air, dramatically, as the wind picked up equally so, as if he was controlling the very winds himself. It began to drizzle, then rain harder. The lightning began to strike with greater frequency. It was a miracle the torches did not blow out.
“Okay, okay, your time’s up; I gave you all kinds of chances. Your magic is nothing! Now, it’s my turn…”
Gracie made three small waves in the air with her hands above her head.
To everyone’s surprise, not only did a lightning bolt strike the top of the tower, but, the tower exploded in brilliant brightness. Bricks and fire rained down on the people as they screamed and ran for cover, lifting their children into their arms as they ran. Some parents ran without grabbing their children, leaving them behind in fear. Chunks of the roof and walls landed amongst the people.
Part of the tower wall flew toward Allan, leaving him no time to dodge it successfully. As he ducked through instinct, the wall phased through him and crashed on the tree behind him.
Allan marched through the mud, still out of phase with the holographic obstacles in his path, trying to ignore the ocassional bricks and debris raining through him. He found Gracie laying in the holographic mud, covered in muck, laughing at her marvelous show.
“Where are you supposed to be right now?” Allan asked, trying to look as angry as possible.
“At home waiting for Mommy,” Gracie replied guiltily.
“Who told you to go to the holodeck?”
“Nobody, Daddy.”
“Did you install the lightning rod yourself?” Allan asked as he looked around, checking the construction of the holographic debris laying around him. “Did you dig out the stones and bury the powder in the bricks?”
“Yes, Daddy. I had Clarence help. The holodeck safeties were on the whole…”
“Get home, now.”
“Computer, exit,” Gracie said in a sad voice, on the edge of tears. The light from the arch served as our guide through the dark forest, rain and lightning all around.
As Gracie stepped into the corridor, her soaked holographic garb disappeared, revealing her modern school clothes underneath. She turned back to say something, then thought against it and kept walking back to their quarters.
“Computer, end program and save,” Allan directed as he reached the holodeck doors.
The father and daughter duo walked quietly down the corridor, smiling to themselves for very different reasons.
OOC: The holodeck program is from A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court by Mark Twain.

A'Mand turned to the doors of the Ready Room when they swished open. Teriir and R'Turan entered the Bridge and she could sense the tension they wore entering the room was left behind. As they moved to stations relative to their position or attention, she quietly watched to gauge their interaction with others.

Oma jumped, not realising that the two officers had returned to the bridge. She highlighted the relevant section of the log.
“These are communication logs from immediately prior to the attack. They’ve been damaged, probably by a power surge, but if you look at this section here,” she pointed at the area causing her concern, “this is a record of a transmission. An unauthorised transmission but the log is so damaged I can’t tell where on the ship the transmission was sent, who sent it or where it was sent to.” She paused to let that sink in.
“I’d like to get one of my staff to get down into the data storage centre to investigate further.”.

Teriir placed a hand to his chin and pondered her words. Locke was right. Someone sold them out to the Orions. He quickly thought of a few possibilities on the development, his own experience in dealing with Orion agents leaping into his mind. An unwilling accomplice or an undercover agent? How many people were involved? What else had this person done or planned to do? Whoever it was needed to be found before they could strike again.
“I’d like to get one of my staff to get down into the data storage centre to investigate further.”.
"Sounds like a plan," he replied, "Good job catching this, Lieutenant. Whoever did this was very skillful, managing to avoid tripping any of our alarms. They knew exactly what they were doing to get a message off without anyone knowing."
As Teriir gave them a moment to consider options, he couldn't help feel as if someone was watching him. He glanced over his shoulder and noticed the ship's councilor was listening in on their conversation. He hadn't seen a Vulcan taking such an active interest in others before. Remembering they hadn't had a chance to meet yet, he gave her a small nod in greeting as something occurred to him. He turned back to Gytaik,"Are there any transporter records? Lets check to make sure nobody transported on or off the ship during the fight."

A'Mand nodded in return. Teriir displayed a good sense of appropriate priorities. The corner of her mouth curled playfully as he turned away. A'Mand had formally met very few of the crew purposefully, and now was certainly not the time to exchange pleasantries with anyone.

U.S.S. ARES
Sickbay
Jei’s eyes opened and her survival instincts told her that she was in a strange place. Thankfully the room was dimly lit. The soft rhythmic beeps were the first sounds that came to her ears. She felt weak, but not sore. Her side no longer burned with pain and her head no longer throbbed. A glance at the bio monitor next to her displayed her vitals. All appeared to be normal.
It was the other information that surprised Jei. ~”Three days… have I been here for three days?”~
Jei sat up and didn’t realize that her groan from muscles that haven’t been utilized in several days had alerted the nurse nearby.
The nurse was by Jei’s biobed before she could swing her legs over the side.
“Easy there, Petty Officer… you had a terrible fall and have been out for a couple of days,” informed the nurse as she effortlessly eased Jei back down onto her bed. “Now that you are awake, let me check you out and make sure everything is ok. Then I’ll call the doctor over to see if he’ll clear you to return to duty.”
With the effortlessness that the nurse was able to put Jei back down on the bed, Jei knew she really didn’t have a choice in the matter. “Yes, ma’am…”
Detecting a slightly snarky tone, the nurse couldn’t resist a retort. “Relax, Crewman… I’m on your side here.”
Jei sighed as she knew the nurse was correct and in the right. Jei just felt frustrated being so helpless and useless. The ship was damaged and in need of repairs. Yet she spent the last several days sleeping in sickbay. “Sorry, ma’am… I just, well, frustrated at myself.”
The nurse leaned over and peered at Jei as she pat Jei’s arm. “Don’t worry about it, Petty Officer. Your vitals are good. I think after a day or so of light activity, you’ll be back to normal duty. Let me go get the doctor and if he clears you to be released from sickbay.”
Jei was tired of talking. More so, her mouth was dry. She simply nodded at the nurse as she went to go find the doctor on duty.

Sickbay
After sedating the screaming Ensign, Christopher had scheduled the man for therapy and decided to take the late shift so that the CMO could take a break for a while.
Jei was tired of talking. More so, her mouth was dry. She simply nodded at the nurse as she went to go find the doctor on duty.
One of the nurses interrupted his train of thought, "Excuse me Doctor, but would you be willing to look at a patient for release to light duty?"
Smiling, Christopher followed the nurse into main sickbay and checked the notes of the woman in the biobed.
"Well now Petty Officer," Christopher began, "you know, I hate titles so I'm going to call you Jei. I see from these notes that you had quite the fall, been unconscious for a while and are still in pain but you want out of here, is that about right?"
The woman nodded slightly.
"Can't say that I blame you. I'm going to give you some meds to take to help with the pain and I'm restricting you to light duties for the next two days. Don't think I can't read your mind Jei, light duties means just that. Not "Oh, I'm sure that Doc meant that I could climb inside the warp conduits." I find out that you've been exerting yourself, I'll hang your head as a trophy in my office. It needs a little decoration anyway. Am I understood?" Christopher smiled as he could see the relief on Jei's face. "Go get some rest in a comfortable bed. Oh, and eat some ice cream, doctor's orders."

U.S.S. ARES
Sickbay
Jei tried to relax as the nurse went off somewhere. Now that she was awake, she felt irritated. She didn’t want to sleep, as she knew the nightmares will be there waiting. More so, she despised being idle. Which made her restless. She couldn't continue laying down. A surge of energy was running through her, even if she still ached. It was better to be doing something.
Without a second thought, she tossed the blanket aside and sat up, making a determined effort not to groan audibly this time. Once up, she swung her legs to her left and hopped down from the biobed. The deck felt cold to her bare feet, but it was a welcome feeling, as it gave her mind something else to focus on. Knowing that she would get into big trouble if she just left, Jei just paced around her biobed. The feeling and motion were slow at first but felt better with each step. Her ankle felt good, as she tested supporting her weight on her previous sprained ankle.
Jei heard voices coming, the nurse and a unknown male. She hopped back on the bed, sitting with her legs dangling off the left side.
Jei nodded slightly. She didn’t want to be here any longer than she had to. In fact, she desperately wanted to get out of sickbay. It was starting to feel suffocating and making her feel anxious. On top of that, she had to check on Mochi, her pet beagle. It has been three days...
"Can't say that I blame you. I'm going to give you some meds to take to help with the pain and I'm restricting you to light duties for the next two days. Don't think I can't read your mind Jei, light duties means just that. Not "Oh, I'm sure that Doc meant that I could climb inside the warp conduits." Christopher smiled as he could see the relief on Jei's face. "Go get some rest in a comfortable bed. Oh, and eat some ice cream, doctor's orders."
Jei was a little puzzled and not sure how to take the doctor’s words. His tone sounded like he seriously meant it and would absolutely do something if he was forced to. Yet his smile and twinkle in his eyes appeared genuine and that he truly cared about her well-being.
Still, two days of no meaningful work worried Jei. She looked down and away, hoping to mask her sudden anxiety. Feeling the eyes of the doctor and nurse on her, Jei looked back. “Doc, I can forgo the pain meds. But could you give me something to help me sleep? Just for the next couple of days. At least until I’m cleared for duty again.”

Deck 8, CMO quaters
It had taken him a little under an hour but, finally, he had cleaned up his room. He had a Supermarine Spitfire model sitting proudly on his desk, on the opposite side he had German Messerschmitt Bf 109, the two fighters were staring each other down. In the middle was his computer terminal. His computer and desk faced away from his bed where a picture was yet to be framed above, Angus had decided to leave that spot vacant for a special moment, he planned to capture a moment from his voyages in a painting so the best memories from the voyage could be with him forever. His display wall was a different story, however, instead of being empty it was filled with high-quality models of tanks, planes, and other equipment from all kinds of wars. Angus wasn't a war activist, but the machines and strategies had always interested him. How creative man could be, if only they didn't use their creativity to kill others instead of helping them. As he got ready for the day he examined one of the models that sat at eye level on a shelf, an old model of the Wright Brothers aviation machine... the first man-made object designed to sail across the clouds. How far we as a species had come in such a short amount of time.
USS Ares
Sickbay
Walking through the Sickbay doors with a rejuvenated energy, It was good to see that a few more beds had become vacant since yesterday. Unfortunately, as he continued to walk deeper inside he saw that one bed was still occupied. He walked into the Intensive Care Ward. The captain has hooked up to a dozen machines, one imparticular was making a worrying shallow and irregular beep, his heart monitor. Walking back into the main room and then into his office he sat at his computer terminal. He cross-referenced yesterdays vitals with today, his eyes darkened. No matter how hard we were trying to keep him alive, no matter how many technological marvels we hook him up to, he was still dying.
This was a decision he needed to discuss.
Again walking out of his office and into the main room, Christopher was working on something at a desk.
"Hey, Christopher... do you have a moment?"

Sickbay
“Doc, I can forgo the pain meds. But could you give me something to help me sleep? Just for the next couple of days. At least until I’m cleared for duty again.”
Christopher glanced at the charts again, "Very well, two days, no more. After that if you're still in pain or not sleeping, I want you back here. You can consider that an order. I'll go replicate your sleep meds and you can pick them up from the nurses station on the way out. SHOO! Stop making my sickbay untidy!" Christopher winked at Jei as he flapped his arms at her, turned and made his way to the replicator.
He ordered the sleeping draughts and dropped them off at the nurses station, signing Jei's discharge on a PADD.
Again walking out of his office and into the main room, Christopher was working on something at a desk.
"Hey, Christopher... do you have a moment?"
Looking up from the desk. He had been so busy with Jei that he hadn't noticed the CMO come back into sickbay. "Of course, Doctor. What's on your mind?"
Christopher sat in the CMO's office and listened to his concerns and looked over the charts. He hadn't been in sickbay when the Captain was brought in but looking at the numbers, Christopher could see that, with the facilities they had on board, they were only prolonging the inevitable. "Sir," Christopher said softly, "I can see you're wrangling with this decision but please allow me to walk it through. If we keep the Captain under sedation, comatose, he'll die. If we freeze him down into hibernation stasis and the chamber loses power during our mission, he'll die. Either way, we'll have to divert our resources to care for him. Resources that should be put to the care of others. As a trauma specialist, my advice is to rendezvous with a hospital ship. The sooner, the better."

Counselor's Office
Laxeth reported to Lieutenant A'Mand's office. He did not know the Counselor very well, and was admittedly very nervous. Despite this, Laxeth was confident he could talk himself out of any situation. His Tellarite roommate at Starfleet Academy once told him that Vulcans were able to tell when anyone was lying; but A'Mand had never met a Talaxian before. And Laxeth was in an especially chatty mood this afternoon.
The meeting had been suggested by his department head because of Laxeth's "loner behavior" - he still had yet to make friends, or to generally socialize with the crew. Counselor A'Mand had picked up on that, most likely because it conflicted with his psychological profile in his records from the Academy. He hoped this meeting wouldn't rouse suspicion. He had yet to be discovered for sending out the message.
Taking a deep breath, he hailed A'Mand's office for entry.

USS Ares
Deck 4 - Security Complex
Ian Locke leaned back in his chair at his desk in the security complex. It was filled with just about everything they would need for their journey; the brig, the primary armory, a training holodeck, and a briefing room. It even had an office for the security chief. True, that person was Dyrell Teriir since he's the CTO but he knew his friend well enough to know he'll take his own on Deck 3 over this one. That made this one here all his. He already setup everything just the way he liked it, the two momentos he kept proudly on display: a baseball and a 22nd century phase pistol. The baseball was the home run ball he caught while watching his brother's team, the Cestus Comets, playing baseball on Cestus III. The phase pistol was a replication of a family heirloom from when an ancestor of his served on the Intrepid, a United Earth Starship from before the Federation was founded.
He nodded to himself and picked up a PADD Commander Teriir had given him this morning. It had been three days since they had combated the Orion ships and life was starting to take shape aboard the Ares. Although the ship was pretty much completely repaired and there were no fatalities, having one of the classrooms damaged while children were in it, the injuries their captain sustained, and R'Turan's unprofessional outburst made everyone uneasy. Yes, the XO had apologized for it and was forgiven, but it would take time for people to forget. The kids were doing much better now but Captain Wilson was still in sickbay. He overheard a medical technician comment that they are considering contacting the Hippocrates, one of the Olympic Class starships in the sector, for assistance.
That wasn't his call to make so he kept his mind on his duties. The PADD he held contained a copy of the roster for the whole Tactical department. He usually didn't look at rosters, preferring to get to know someone face to face than through paper work. With the drills they would be running soon, starting today, he needed to get to know as much as he could as soon as possible.

Ian Locke returned the PADD to the desk and stood up from the chair. There were simulations starting at 9:00 hours and he needed to be there early to get the first ones setup. Target practice is always a good way to start.
OOC: Long post because of the list. Feel free to look through the names of the officers in the Tactical Department. I only covered the officers, not the enlisted (aka, the common redshirts). The list is subject to change as people join us!

Deck 17 - Engineering
~” Three days after the attack and I am still going over reports. I am proud of my staff as they have performed admirably, despite the outburst from our acting captain. I guess it is to be expected once you factor in the stress of being attacked on day one of our mission and a sudden and saddening promotion. No, all things considered, I can’t blame him. I am glad that cooler heads prevailed and we were able to get back on task quickly.”~
Rosek placed the PADD in his desk and tapped his com badge.
“Dyrell we have pieced the ship back together. The only thing left is a fresh coat of paint and I have a spare brush if you would like to take a stroll on the bulkhead with me before the captain wakes up. “
Rosek closes the channel and wishes he could see the LT.CDR’s face at that moment.
~” I guess I should report in to the acting captain also but I would prefer to do that in person. I’m not sure if he is intimidated by me or simply perplexed by the fact that I can read him so well. In all my years, I have never seen such a blank stare as the one he gives me.”~
Rosek once again taps the com badge and hails the XO.
“Evening R’Turan where might I find you this evening? I would like to discuss how we can better keep this ship in one piece.”

((Tag: R’Turan, Teriir))
“Go ahead.” R’Turan purred, approaching Oma’s station. “I’ll send a security team with the one going down there, in case they find something.” Following his statement, the Caitian would turn to the chief of security, Lt. Ian Locke, purring;
“A team of two will go down there with whoever lt. Oma selects, if anything goes wrong, you are free to send reinforcements.”
((Tag: R’Turan, Gytaik, A'Mand))
Hearing Teriir’s question, R’Turan’s ears would swivel around to focus on Oma’s answer, listening from his position in front of lt. Locke.
“I’m interested in that as well, lieutenant.” He said, hoping to sound encouraging, although the normal seriousness of his voice counteracted that a bit.
((Tag Lt. Gytaik Oma, Lt. Ian Locke, Lt. Commander Dyrell Teriir))
