Stage 9 Enterprise D Recreation Project Shutdown by CBS

Statement from Stage 9:

On Wednesday 12th Sep we received a Cease and Desist from CBS requiring us to cease development. We made every effort to approach them to discuss modifying the project to meet their criteria, but they are refusing to even discuss the matter. We'll be making a longer statement on Discord shortly. We hope you enjoyed Stage 9 while it lasted!

Well it was only a matter of time, CBS is realy hard trying to get rid of the fans and personaly I have to say with everything going on I am loosing my interrest in future Star Trek.

I could see them buying Memory Alpha to be honest.

Personally Im pretty upset that the team have been asked to cease this project. I spoke to Scragnog (the chap who started the project) on their discord about certain aspects of the project, and beta tested Version 9 a few months ago. The project had so much potential and I was super excited to play version 11.

I kind of worried that this kind of thing would happen and it seem it finally has. Im really gutted as a fan, but Im more gutted at the time and effort the Stage 9 team put in on this project.

Truly gutted. Kind of the reason I dislike CBS really.

I get the impression that if CBS ain't making bank, then they'll shut it down. Fan made series, awesome digital projects, the whole shebang. It makes me worry about the stories I write that are set in the Trek universe. The only place I put them up is on here and my blog. My blog doesn't get a metric tonne of visitors so it's under CBS' radar for now but how long until they start to scour the web for anything they don't approve of?

Here in Canada, Discovery is broadcast on the Space channel so I got to see it without paying extra. Would I pay to see it on CBS All Access? Nope. Would I pay extra to watch it without commercials on CBS All Access? Hell no. It's almost as if the suits at CBS haven't figured out what people really want from streaming and are stuck in their 70 year old mentality. "We'll put it on our own streaming service but screw 'em, we'll keep commercials because we need to gouge as much mo ney as possible out of the IP. If they don't want commercials, we'll charge them even more! Buhahahaha! Here's the kicker, we'll only do it in the US! Broadcast it in Canada and put it on Netflix for everyone else! Muhahahahaha! Suck it Trek fans."

I was out at the mall yesterday (I also live in canada), and guess what? I found box sets for Enterprise and Voyager on DVD. Enterprise was $165 and Voyager was $240. For shows that haven't been on TV in decades and have been on DVD for almost as long. There's no reason for them to be priced at their original release prices.

CBS are the Electronic Arts of television. Money grubbing scum. They'd get more good will and make more money if they offered their shows and priced their products in a reasonable manner.

Those are outrageous prices. Having just a quick look on Amazon, the Enterprise box set is £30 (about $50) and Voyager is £60 (about $100 CAD) - the Blu-ray version of Enterprise is £56, about $94 CAD. Even these prices may seem a hair on the steep side, but they're a lot easier to stomach than the ones you've seen.

They need to keep on the down-low if they don't want to face the same fate as the Stage 9 project. What did them in was publicity, I remember seeing several articles on prominent tech websites in the last few months.
