Normally, I'd brand this a special kind of heresy, but I remember Season 1 of TNG through the eyes of a kid that watched it when it came out and never since then. So, I guess I should rewatch them before I call the Inquisitors?

Or watch the episode Code of Honor (episode 4 I think it is) - it's not very well regarded at all and is considered to be one of the worst episodes of any Trek series.

I'll give Season 2 a watch for Discovery - I made it through Season 1 and there's not enough wrong to make me ditch it and erase my memory right now.

Another one on the reject pile would be Shades of Gray, which was made on a shoestring budget because they dumped a lot of cash into the Sherlock Holmes and Borg episodes in the same season. Even one of the writers admitted it was absolutely terrible.

Discovery's production value was consistently good. The sets and costume were of a very high standard. Most of the episode plots were well written. My issue with it was that every single character except for Tilly felt like a personality vacuum. Burnham was written really badly and I think that the actress did really well with what she was given. It was hard to empathise with a character written as unrepentently mutinous as her. Even the first thing she does on Discovery is go into an area she has been specifically told is classified. Give Tilly and Stamets their own show and it would be a metric tonne more enjoyable.

I remember TNG when it started and that it didn't seem that bad. Sure there were some stinker episodes and they were trying to find their feet but that was Roddenberry trying to expand his vision of the future, even if a lot of it seems excessively hippie to us thirty years later. IMHO, even DS9 didn't get really good until the Dominion turned up because we saw something new, the Federation go to war.

I'm looking forward to Series 2 of Discovery because I want to see Pike rock the hell out of the show. Oh, and those sweet new uniforms too.

I think that they're the same as the Disc uniform, just with the TOS colours. Whatever they are, they look sharp. I reserve the right to gaze at Rebecca Romijn in a gold uniform as the Enterprise First Officer

Pike is seen wearing both uniform styles during the trailer and the badge on the TOS style uniform doesn’t have the rank pips, with that reverting to the sleeve stripes.

I assume that as he took the chair on Discovery he’s simply switched uniforms while he’s there. There was a Discovery novel that postulated that the department colour uniforms were only used by the Constitution class crews and that seems to be the path things are going down on the face of it.

The thing with Burnham is that i'm pretty sure you're not supposed to like her as a person. I'm sure when it was first being produced there was suggestion that we wouldn't really like some of the characters as they weren't meant to be your usual perfect Trek characters.
I personally rather like that aspect of it, i might not like her character but i'll not deny she is a lot more exiting that Mr/Mrs Perfect we always end up with in Trek shows and movies.
A lot of the characters are flawed in some way, much more so than some of the regulars in the older shows. I mean they tried to give us a rebel with Tom Paris, but it just felt a bit daft as he was 99% of the time just perfect Starfleet material.
