I'm looking at the next 12 months of Star Trek Online and wondering if I actually want to play (given I'm a lifer).

Whats the point. Discovery holds ZERO interest to me.

While I can't say I completely disagree with you.

I think CBS is aware that they are walking a very very fine line with fans and due to some fan backlash some changes have been made in Discovery. The Klingon's getting a minor makeover and having their hair restored being one thing that was due to negative fan reactions. CBS being about stakes and profit means they have to listen to the fanbase. The additional investment in Star Trek shows is enough to prove that Star Trek is indeed CBS's Cash Cow. Which means they listen or risk losing money.

Does that mean we get everything we want? No. I know that the updated visual effects on a show that is supposed to be 10 years before a show that debuted in the 1960's is a hard pill to swallow for a lot of fans. I'll admit I had a hard time with it myself. But I've adapted to it and I trust that the writers and the fans who are working on these shows have the best interests of our beloved franchise at heart.

CBS is running commercials for STO on All Access right now. This is a good thing for the game. I actually don't recall EVER seeing a commercial for Star Trek Online until now & I've played since launch. This could mean new players entering the game and giving it a much needed shot in the arm. Perhaps down the line we will see some collaboration between Cryptic and the PIcard Series. I also hope to see some of the 25th Century Designs make it to TV. I think both companies stand to benefit from cross advertising and collaboration.

At the end of the day. Whether Discovery is your cup of tea or not. Star Trek is back on TV, more series are being developed, and STO is primed to benefit from both. It's a great time to be a fan.

Perfect. How did TOS fans take it when Klingons changed their appearance for the original films? It reminds me how DS9 explained it away.

Not really sure what to think about it. I like others want to see the next "Big E" along the timeline after TNG. They should make Picard an Admiral and on the Federation Flagship and have guest appearances the rest of the crew of the Enterprise D/E such as Riker, Laforge and others that have their own commands.

Wasn't the whole "don't let them promote you" referring to staying a captain running his own ship? Kirk's saying being the captain of your own vessel was the best position, from what I understand.
