Hi folks,
Returning player here. I am having some trouble with aft torpedoes. They won't fire when my rear shield arc is facing the enemy and within the 90 degree firing arc. I have a Photon Torpedo Launcher Type I in the aft weapon console slot. Any advice is appreciated.

Not to sound condescending but is the torp launcher set to autofire? I've come across some situations where the aft launchers refuse to fire at all and I just sit there watching my Torp spread timer count down and only once that's run out does the cursed thing decide to fire one poxy torpedo.

As an avid torp user I’ve noticed that sometimes a torp won’t fire if you’re at a very high/low angle compared to the target on the z-axis. So if you are way above a target, even though it’s technically in arc it seems to refuse to shoot.
Now there’s no guarantee this is the case here but it’s possible I guess.
Also another issue is that your torp really is during but the game isn’t rendering your weapon fire. This can be a very real problem in some visually spammy maps like CCA or Tzenkethi front.

Glomming on to Sul-Matuul's comment, for the aft torp to fire automagically, the aft target has to be the focus of your attack, unless you have Torpedoes: Spread [x] active. Otherwise the aft torp is trying to fire at your primary forward target (if you have one).
Also, if you are switching targets while rotating, the enemy ship will most likely have to be on screen for you to mark it the active target. Not just the "HEY! I'm over here!" reticle, the actual ship will need to be viewable.

I know there is a problem with turrets but I am not sure if that is still there or if it affects torps.

Someone else had asked me this in game, (torp box was in green) so I took it off auto-fire but it had no effect. The aft torpedoes still wouldn't fire.

Yes, this is what happens to me. My rear shield arc is facing directly toward the target. They're within 90 degrees and I'm on the same axis as the target. I am not flying above or below them. I try to fly in their path. The torp box stays grey and continues to count down.
Someone recommended removing the torp console, putting it back in, and then saving the config. Haven't tried it yet, but I will give that a try.

By the way, this is happening on the Miranda-class. I have not tried to see if it's a recurring bug on all of my ships.

Just to clarify is this a torpedo weapon or a console? Because there are consoles like the Point Defense Bombardment Warhead that will act like a torp but only shoot in a certain arc.

I don't know. It said type IV torpedo launcher, so I grabbed it from my inventory and put it in the slot. I just came back to the game, so I don't know all of the tech terms yet. I have just played enough RPG games to know what a weapon is and that is does DPS, and the more DPS the better.
However, I got it to work. I am not sure if it's bc I took the launcher out and put it back in or I am half blind. I see the aft torp light up now and I can fire it.
I am just wondering if I can use dual torps in the front. I know later on you can get secondary torp launchers and officers who help with recharge time. I'm sure slotting to photon launchers isn't beneficial but I am different.

Glad you got it working, pretty much at the age of the game it has some weird quirks where stuff like this happens. If in doubt remove the item and re-slot it, or try logging out/in which fixes some few issues.
You can indeed slot as many torps as you want on the ship, both front and back. They will however share a cooldown on usage and only one can fire at a time (no shooting all at once like you can with cannons and beams).
As you mentioned, duty officers are available to reduce the cooldowns for torps slotted (Projectile Weapons Officers).
So a full torp boat is perfectly usable as a build strategy, you just need to know how to handle getting the most out of the torps which can be trickier than energy weapons.

You can run 100% torps if you want. I don't know why you would, but you can. I run cannons and turrets, but that's because of the way I play. I'm always facing my targets.
But if you're in a Cruiser, and your turn rate is 4 or something, torps can be a friend. Just make sure you leave some beams in there to cover your flanks.

IIRC, that issue was impacting aft turrets' ability to hit targets in front of the ship. I wouldn't expect that to affect an aft torpedo, which can only ever fire aft.

Thanks for that. I guess I never noticed it (or ever had it happen) because of the way I play. I NEVER sit in one place. My ship is set up to fly at full impulse in combat. If I park anywhere, I lose bonuses.
