The nice thing about ARES is that stories are adaptive. I purposely wrote-up my character to feel/experience/imagine the life and trials of someone in the 'lower decks' (among my favorite episodes in TNG). An enlisted petty officer dealing with their own problems and trying to do their best for Starfleet and the Federation.
Now with that said, I see characters continue on with their roles, doing their things, just 'off camera'. There is no "voice" detailing those things, but I'm sure we can all imagine what they are generally doing. Any story/plot changes from the mundane with those now "NPCs", I believe should be discussed with our ARES staff. I see the staff as providing the outlines of an image, where we (the individual) color/fill in the stuff inside those outlines.
Definitely have fun with your story and never be shy about asking or starting up a conversation about an idea for a story.

Yes of course, sorry for the delay! Thanks for your post on not waiting for tags. I was kind of waiting around to see some other story points develop before posting more, but that's really not necessary at all. But I'll work on moving forward with this portion as soon as possible, in the next couple of days.
Should we maybe attack the Mountain base first, because that has hostages? Once we get imaging on that, we can work on a way to get those hostages out without harm. Then the Island base has no choice but to fall, because they have nothing but raw power to contend against, with no bargaining chips

Here's what I have in mind, now that I'm out of Hyrule for a bit. (Breath of the Wild got me SUCKED IN!! LOL)
I think we can image both the island & mountain base simultaneously with stealth drones. Then draw up a quick strike plan for the mountain base to get the hostages out, using the MACOS(I thought those guys disbanded between ENT & DIS/TOS) to extract them. We can just use the fighters to bombard the Island base until their shields drop.
How comparable to Post dom Starfleet tech is Nausicaan tech?

That's the thing. Honestly, we might only need to hit one base, depending on how we want to play it. Only the mountain base has hostages. Rescue the hostages, and the rest might surrender or agree to leave peacefully.
They were stealing resources from the people, and when Starfleet came, destroyed some of their ships, and chased the rest from orbit, that plan fell apart. They have hostages to keep them safe, but take away the hostages, and they've got nothing. The Island fortress is protected by a shield, and shields can be battered down. After the hostages are rescued, it's only a matter of time before they have to make a decision. Will they negotiate to leave peacefully? There's no more profit involved.
As far as the hostages, in my last post I discussed a type of surveillance device that could go into the cave and see who is guarding the hostages. As you all remember, the Nausicaan barracks is outside of the caves and unshielded. The hostages are in the cave, which has kelbanite deposits that make transport difficult. They are also guarded by a handful of guards.
If we send the robotic drones that look like animals in, we could count the guards and send in MACOS on a quick raid, with pattern enhancers to get the people out. Or, get more inventive and rig the drones to electrocute the guards. *L* Set security personnel outside the barracks to fire on them and keep them inside, roll some photon grenades in, etc.
If we want to assault the island fortress, we can send the fighters in to blow the shield, beam the Naudicaans to a cargo bay full of knockout gas, and drag them to the brig.
Nausicaan tech is less than Starfleet tech. They're like pirates and have inferior gear, except for maybe nice guns.

Thing is, we have to consider risk to personnel. Obviously freeing the hostages in the primary mission so that should be where we concentrate our forces. The island fortress is much further down on the target list as it means way more risk to the Ares crew. If we take the hostages, they have no more leverage so they will have to negotiate sooner or later. If you think that they'd rather go out in a blaze of defiance, there's enough firepower on the Ares and its fighters to send their island to the bottom of the ocean. Perhaps we could even configure the deflector dish to emit a tachyon harmonic burst, knock out the fortress' shields and simply beam them into the brig?

I like that idea! Maybe have the fighters come in and feint so it looks like a huge show of force, but in actuality, a scientific/engineering solution is what actually brings down the shield!
Hey Josh, I know Allan suggested that you take the mountain mission, and I take the island, but why dont we flip them, so that Ops figures out the way to get the shield down and the Nausicaans in custody, and Tactical handles the rescue mission? We can all actually discuss this in the game after we finish kicking it around in here. My character alluded to an upcoming planning meeting in my last post.
