What I found funny was the part that they all said how beautuful the Enterprise was, it's like yeap our ship is ugly and we know it.
I was also rewatching the episode a few times and while it is a great episode it has it flaws being Trek call me blended by the action.

Anyone have a bet on if the redshirt would kick it? Ma had that. LOL
I find Tilly quite loveable. Michael's character growth FROM THIS EPISODE ALONE was stellar. Pike's casting was well thought of & that engineer.....Ooses personality.

Disliked, still got Burnham as a Mary Sue, always has all the answers, and never does anything wrong, but anyone else who acts like her ends up dead, or humiliated. Her plot armour is so thick, she could stop a nuclear missile if it hit her directly.
I'm also not sure what it is trying to be, but it isn't trying to emulate the Trek of old, which isn't technically a bad thing, if it had it's own identity. But for the start of the season, it looks like they are trying to get the comedy of The Orville here, like the sneezing, or other slapstick jokes. Then you have bits which seem to belong more in something like Battlestar Galactica, with the rubble, it's great scenery, and the atmosphere of that scene is good, but it's not traditional Trek, which isn't a bad thing, but I feel the show is suffering from an identity crisis.
I am critical, because I want it to be good, I will keep watching for as long as my Netflix subscription is around, so I do hope it finds its identity soon.
Also, Power Rangers!

Little things like what Sulu said when his ganglia popped out, it just didn't feel like it belongs there. I honestly don't mind Discovery that much but trying to add comedy into Star Trek doesn't sit well with me.

I actually liked the little touches of comedy throughout. Didn't seem all too out of place.

Just have to remind ourselves that the 2 seasons of TNG, DS9, and Voy were mostly bad.
I disagree about the humor though. Unlike Orville I actually laughed at most of the small jokes.

No one is questioning the quality of the older Trek shows, nor did I say Discovery was bad, nor say anything about the others being bad. TNG had Wesley, who was a bit of a Mary Sue, but didn't get too much screen time, so only didn't find him quite as irritating as Burnham. The other thing is that the other Treks focus heavily on character building, something Discovery is sadly lacking, we are in season 2 and so many of the characters are forgettable, it's focusing a lot on action, and quirkiness to sell it to viewers, which some people like, and that's okay! We all have different opinions, these are mine, and my critiques, I just feel it has an identity crisis.
As for the jokes, some of them were good, and well placed, however some of them just seem to be an attempt to win over some viewers who left for The Orville.
All I want for Discovery is for them to stop making Burnham have all of the answers, no single character should be so infallible, even Data and Seven of Nine made mistakes, while any mistake Burnham has made has either been sidelined or turned into a positive. The other thing I want is character development, I'd love to know more about the other characters too! Those are the only two things I want.

I wasn't trying to argue with you. Everything is subjective. What you like is different than what I like.
TNG seasons 3.5 through 6, DS9 3-7.......my favorite Trek.
Disco Season 1, for all it's faults......TO ME, was better than TNG S1, 2.....DS9 S1, VOY S1, Ent S1, 2
But that's me.....good or bad I'm just happy people are watching new Trek again

It took them ten minutes to do something they didn't do throughout the whole of season 1, introduce the bridge crew. Granted, they were 'blink and you'll miss them' names but they still did it.

Meh - the Enterprise being beyond screwed is such a quick and lazy explanation for Pike being on Discovery now, magic happens and it is broken. It felt way too much like a "oh look here's the enterprise", please cream yourself now, now it is conveniently gone - going to have to look after yourself now. There were good moments, but no matter what - I cannot agree that this is canon, regardless of the fact that it is canon, I can't go along with it. Kelvin timeline could have more advanced technology through the simple explanation of an alternate reality.
But the tech in Discovery breaks my immersion. It feels like to me, when the series ends they will click their fingers and say: ummmmm...alien species...did something...now we must be primitive...oh dear what a shame. I'll keep watching it, but it makes me a little worried about the other shows - especially with the volume, it is like they are milking a cow for all it is worth as quickly as they can. I think in it's current direction, in 5 years Trek will be dead again, or at least the Trek that I enjoy. They have focused more on action and making it seem more like a film, and I feel it misses the mark on character development and an actual logical and immersive story. IMO.

there are a few things that get me about discovery one is the tech seems better , to at least in this ep " Girl Power" not that I am unhappy wi hit but dont be so obvious about it whats next gay kissing, sex every ep I really hate it when TV shows try to please everyone and start adding in things.
I actually liked Pike and from what I do remember from TOS is that Spock when he was with Pike he was more emotional and to be honest even in the movies there were things like his half brother that where not known until he had to between Killing his half brother or giving in to him. and making Kirk a little pissed for doing so

The tech thing doesn't bother me at all, i just accept that it makes sense to use the best effects we have today to make a show look futuristic. If TOS guys had access to the computing power and FX that we currently have they'd have had holograms all over the place too and flashy touchscreens too.
Heck TOS was written at a time they thought we'd all be in flying cars and living on the moon by the 2020's, or possibly in the middle of WWIII so i don't think we can really hold the different imagery against either show.
All series' and films from the Trek IP have been made with the best look they could possibly have at the time.
