On point 1. Hes like spock. Spock never wanted a command, he stayed under James Kirk most of his career if not all of it.
And he didn't stop peoples careers, hundreds more ships in the Federation XD

I prefer raw characters with flaws either way than Chuck Norris. Also, the whole 'story' this spacedock dude is telling is waaay out of context. It's like any workplace, you change the style of management - the staff takes time to get accustomed.
If anything Jellico was a military strategist and his leadership was way different than Picard's. Neither of them were particularly in the wrong though. Jellico took the Enterprise as a mission critical asset, whereas Riker treated the Enterprise and her crew as a family. Riker was a leader, Jellico chose to be an authoritarian.

Never liked Ryker... Never will. Doesn't have anything to do with anything this guy said. Smugness and arrogance (which Ryker has in spades) have always irritated me.
As for the video, most of what this guy said is shallow and barely arguable. I'm fairly sure he chose this route purely to hear himself talk and evoke outrage.
What I really need is a cupholder and a couple of Advil.-Quincy Taggart

Wow. The person who made this video called Riker smug and then immediately starts off with Shelby? The most smug character I had seen? *hits the big red button*
Yep had to stop it right there.
As someone who was in a real life military (which is only related to Starfleet in that it has a chain of command and ranks), I can personally vouch for officers that didn't want to leave their current posting. Heck, I refused a promotion once to CWO-4. I didn't want it, and felt like I was leaving a place and people that I could call family and home. That mattered more then an extra square on my bar and some larger duties.
If you want a good Star Trek character that also did this (and had no negative effect on the officers under him) please see James T. Kirk. Not only did he do everything he could to stay in the Captain's chair post TMP, but his senior officers still made it to Captain themselves, some not even having to be in command of their own ship. He even told Picard not to leave that chair. So, the thing people can still be promoted, and people can love their job without having higher aspirations. One person does not hold everyone back.
But this video does remind of one thing the writers of Star Trek haven't really worked out post TOS: That Commodores can still command starships and that rank and position do not go hand in hand. A Captain does not have to just be a Captain in rank. Nor does the First Officer just have to be a Commander in rank. In fact, I usually find it funny when in STO (digressing here) we Fleet Admirals take command and our XO's and Bridge Officers can't be one grade below us and other officers one or two below as well. They're only Commanders? Why are they being held back, if the Captain is the highest Starfleet rank attainable? This happens in Fan films where the Captain is a Flag Officer. I may make a topic on that later, as it's always something that has bothered me. It's like an artificial ceiling that shouldn't really be there.
Right, to the video: No thanks. Sadly, the creator clearly stated this was for 'exaggerated comedic effect'...and I didn't really laugh. And I love laughing at Star Trek spoofs. But this was just dry.

Riker wow he is one of the few people ( including characters) that I have seen or met that I just want to Punch in the face. I think that Riker character was not a great character but it is the person that played him that I really didnt like his Body language and stupid unrealistic smiles acting to me was just plain Bad if thy had a different actor I probably wouldn't have not not liked him as bad I actually just finished watching STNG the one thing that I noticed awhike watching the eps that the further along the series the less they had Riker as a main story lie character I am thinking that they were stuck with him in a contract so they couldn't just kill him off or sent him else were which is why they just made less eps about him .

Fun fact: He has to sit like that because of a back injury. People just assume that was his character thing, but it's real life in play. The more you know.
