Except... This is more Gates McFadden than Denise Crosby. The trades said that Halston Sage took "time off to film a [Netflix] movie" and that she would be seen less in Season 2. Nothing formal has been announced about her departure being anything other than temporary, and she is listed in the promotional material as a member of the cast throughout season 2.
So. We know nothing.

It's not meant to be... It's a parody take on the Space Opera genre as a whole. I've seen it lampoon everything from Trek to BSG and Star Wars. But it does follow the spirit of Star Trek, but unike Trek, it's not afraid to show its warts and throws in a few fart jokes.
Seth isn't my favourite either, I utterly despise Family Guy/American Dad, but the writing in this show is fairly decent and you have to respect the cajónes they have to write entire shows about controversial subjects like Porn Addiction and Gender Identity, espeically in this bull♥♥♥♥ Politically Correct/SJW/Snowflake era we find ourselves in.

S2 Ep4 - Nothing Left on Earth Excepting Fishes
I actually liked it. My thoughts:
Once I saw the cattle prod at her neck, I knew. I liked the makeup work. The monkey-men looked good. The final Billy Joel song was a nice touch. I'm a fan, and I never saw that one coming. The Command Test story was a filler, and I said it in my head before Bortus gave it voice, "He will fail". All of the episodes have at least one scene that is painful to watch, the simulator scene was this episode's. Patrick Warburton is disgustingly cringeworthy. I shall miss him - sort of. Krill ships look like helmets from the front. Oh, and why not pew pew pew the monkey-men with the shuttle's guns?
She'll be back... Again.

Just watched the episode, I really enjoyed it! I'm glad how there wasn't a B plot, they were just focusing on one thing throughout the entire episode.
Very good, hopefully future episodes will be as good as this one.

This week's episode was so very good! The Orville is such a contrast to Discovery. The Orville, although a little loose for a sci-fi series, is exceptional at character development. Discovery is so rushed to develop the season's plot that it is very difficult to accomplish meaningful character development. By doing this, it is more difficult to attach myself to the characters in Discovery. I enjoy the sci-fi of it all, but I cannot say that I really care for many of the characters of Discovery.
The Orville does such a good job with character development! I know, and care about all of the main characters! In that way, it is very much like TNG. If Discovery could just slow down and develop it's characters more, and better, I believe that it would be much more successful. They could spend less per episode, and add a few additional episodes to get the plot finished properly.
Sorry to veer off into Discovery, but this episode of The Orville was just SOOOO good! I couldn't help but see exactly why I've had difficulty with Discovery. As I've said before, if I turn my brain off, Discovery is fine sci-fi, but I want more! I want to care about the characters. I want to be invested in their stories! The Orville is doing a great job of that this season! Hopefully, Discovery's writers and producers pick up on this idea.

Glad to see Star Trek fans are watching The Orville. #SethTrek
Was about to make a thread for it, when I noticed it here under non-Trek. Sad, as it has more of the old spirit then that Mushroom tripping non-Trek writer show that starts with a um...yeah, like the bridge crew I forgot their names. Maybe they need another roll call after a whole season? *shrugs*
Anyways, back on topic. Been loving the latest Orville episodes. Apologies for not reading a years worth of back-posts, so I'm not quite up to date with your conversation.
The Orville is still finding their balance between humour and seriousness, but to be honest the show stands on its own with or without having been touted as a parody back in the first season. This second season has ben feeling a bit more TNG-like (post season 1 of course). They really care about the characters and they get episodes on their own arcs without one character dominating (and irritating) everything. A hopeful future, with a few bumps and laughs, not a dark one.
So, I welcome you all to Seth Trek. Any Egotastic Funtime (YouTube) watchers here? He gives some light-hearted reviews about the show and stuff behind the scenes.

Another good episode taking on issues in our society, most not able to accept thing s they don't understand and the flower was Epic.
This show does what Discovery does not developing the characters of the crew, I mean I have no opinion of the Disco Crew but I know Klydon is a ♥♥♥♥, Kelly is still in love with Ed, Isaac tries everything to please Dr Fin.
The Discovery Crew is just there to press the buttons on the Bridge and tell what the Computer says.

You know I watched today Discovery and Orville, and the Disco episode was just a joke compared to this (and all other) Orville episodes.

I watched "Identity" last night.
It is, as it has been predicted. Once AI is fully realized, humans will be seen as a threat that must be eliminated. The Orville is doing Trek (and then some) the way it should be done. I am by no means a Brannon Braga fan. But I trust Seth, and I trust Andre, and they have not disappointed.
I was surprised by the location of the guns. I still thought they looked cool. Not really practical though. Think about it. REALLY think about it. Not practical.
I was surprised by the subterranean tunnels until I saw what was in the cave, and then I realized who built the tunnels. It's like London.
The Borg had Cubes and Spheres and photon casings(?). I like the look of flying cored and segmented oranges!
Tell me he was really singing that! Holy crap!
Chairs? D - do you have any, uh, chairs?
Think of your mother hooking up the stereo.
I'm looking forward to the conclusion!
Also, I miss the porn 'stache.

The Orville made the transformation, from a parody it copied to be better than the original some time a go but with this episode it really landed on a new level, BTW Red Shirt meme has returned.
The last time I could not wait to see the conclusion of an Episode was The Best of Both Worlds.

I couldn't agree more! I watched both as well. Discovery was fine...just fine. The Orville is must watch viewing, every week now! It was always better than Discovery, writing, acting, and plot progression, but this season's episodes have added such an emotional attachment to the ensemble! I genuinely care about these characters. I cannot say the same about Discovery.
This week's episode was the best yet! I did not see the genocide reveal coming. I should have, but I was so distracted by the Isaac and the doctor's family storyline. That's good, believable writing! Discovery is obvious about what is coming up, throwing clues out that a 6 year old could figure out, and acting like it's clever...ugh! I was shocked at the reveal, and finally, The Orville has it's contemporary version of the Borg! Instead of assimilating, they eliminate because...AI...our present day concern! Excellent Star Trek type of storyline!
Discovery has more cinematic production, but The Orville is better in every other way! I love this show!!!

I don't know about London, but Paris is definitely creepy...

I have to hand it to the visual effects teams. That descent to the city was stunning. Way better than when Attack of the Clones tried to do a descent into a foggy city.
