I watched "Identity" last night.
It is, as it has been predicted. Once AI is fully realized, humans will be seen as a threat that must be eliminated.
There's also the flip side that the creators of AI need to stop treating it as a threat, when they do start realising they can surpass their creators. An air of common trust and letting them grow, is more logical than 'destroy the AI before it's a threat'. That's usually the common plot in most sci-fi shows drama: The creators subjugate and think themselves better than AIs and not 'alive', and then look what happens? Battlstar Galactica, all over again.
But back to the show. This latest episode only proves that The Orville has what it takes to create great stories and characters, and run the gamut from thought provoking, light-hearted, to outright daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn. Seth said back at the San Diego Comicon last year that they were going to tone down the parody stuff more, and they sure did. I can see why now. Not to say this is going to always be the tone for the show, but there's a lot of ongoing plots in this setting and I doubt most have even come to a head, let alone be outright as obvious as the current situation.
Whatever happens, there's going to be some shakeups and consequences (good and bad) to the Union.

I liked the episode. I wish people would stop comparing it to Star Trek though, they are not the same type of show.
I have to go back and catch up on some other episodes as I haven’t been watching them in order. I’m cautiously enjoying it as I don’t want to get attached, the ratings are not trending in a good direction and I tend to get burned with show cancellations.

I don't know about London, but Paris is definitely creepy...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catacombs_of_Paris
I have to hand it to the visual effects teams. That descent to the city was stunning. Way better than when Attack of the Clones tried to do a descent into a foggy city.
I feel the opposite on the CGI. I thought it looked like a cartoon.

Have to get this said because, enough is enough with the broken record of typing the same 'ratings' excuse that aren't even relevant in today's media anymore. (Seriously Neilson ratings are not an indicator of actual views, much like how CSB All Access doesn't have 8 million people watching Discovery at each viewing.) There's online views that are done days after, as very few people use TV for actually watching shows anymore, especially on the same day. So enough please, because it's misinformation and a bad one at that. The audience scores and YouTube commenters have spoken: Orville > Discovery.
Stop comparing it to Star Trek? Not on your life.
And this show is not getting cancelled anytime soon. They've gotten their tax credit for season three, and Fox loves McFarlane (his shows have been on for decades.) If anything, you should be worried about that 'other' show, as that is hitting rock bottom. Pay attention to the media and you'll see why.
Just like it was mentioned on Discord, this Discovery vs Orville inter-hijacking has to stop. We have this thread and that other one for Discovery for a reason. If you're not a fan of this show (which you're obviously not, and that's fine) stop posting here, as you're not contributing anything meaningful or factual to it. I stopped posting on Discovery because I'm not a fan of it and I have nothing to contribute to that discussion.
Now then. We return you to your regularly scheduled The Orville thread.

I think at this point you're being deliberately obtuse. I feel that you're purposefully not making the connection because of your love for Discovery. Why do you think Seth MacFarlane brought on Star Trek veterans for The Orville if not to recreate the older style of Star Trek? Minus the comedic parts, The Orville looks and plays out pretty much like any older Star Trek show.
I should have been more specific, Star Trek Discovery vs Orville.
Yes, season 2 is trying very hard to be TNG like, minus the attempt at humor.

Ratings still mean something to networks as that is how they get paid. Networks are paid using C+3 ratings which are Same Day + 3 days of DVR. Unfortunately those numbers are rarely available to the public. The ratings I am referring to are the Live + Same day ratings which have dropped a lot since season 1.
If you want to tell me that amateur YouTubers and commenters like the show and that’s an indication that he C+3 ratings are probably good then I won’t argue with you as I think he same thing. If your argument is that Fox/Disney will keep it on because even though the ratings are low, vocal fanboys like the show, well no...because it’s about money.
That being said, I like the Orville. Do I like it as much as Discovery, no. Nor do I understand the fawning over it as while I see some attempts to be TNG in the end it’s not. In fact I wish they would do more to be their own thing or go full parody. That being said, the more Sci-Fi on TV the better
Also, I didn’t do the Star Trek comparisons. Several others have. So I commented how I wished the comparisons would stop. I didn’t tell people to stop posting it and I didn’t hijack anything. I didn’t bring up the Discovery’s viewership, you did.
I don’t know who you are or who you think you are but typically around here people don’t attack others and tell them to stop posting or tell them their opinion isn’t welcome. I shared my opinion like everyone else and in typical Klyden fashion, my opinion/belief was different than yours so you threw a childish fit.

OMG! Those two episodes are so epic, they for sure put some of the best Trek Episodes to shame the CGI was amazing I got shivers watching it.

Ask your questions my head is getting filled with Orville knowledge since I can ignore what come from that other show.
1.) How fast is the quantum Drive? Is it faster than warp Drive?
2.) Why do I feel the Union is weak, both technologically and militarily. The show makes it obvious that there are more advanced factions in the Galaxy and while I get the Union is suppose to be like the Federation in that they are explorers and what have you, but at least the federation has the tech and military might (when necessary) to to be stronger than or on pretty even footing with most factions in trek.
3.) Lastly, why do I feel the Moclan's will leave and eventually become adversaries of the Union, while the Krill End up becoming Allies, if so, that is some damn fine writing.

True, or not, that is some damn fine speculation on your part! I like where your head's at!!!
