Pike has a predetermined storyline, so is unlikley to stay with the Discovery for it's entire journey, unless they drag out the years! So, assuming they don't drag out the years, and we see a new captain in the chair, who do you think it should be?
Me personally, I would go with Saru, I do believe he would make a good captain.

Saru for sure. He would be the first truly alien hero captain in Star Trek.

I've really been enjoying Anson Mount's Pike portrayal. For myself it has definitely added a more Star Treky vibe to the show. Is that what "Discovery" is planning? Similar to "American Horror Story" each season will be a bit of a different story line or faction?

Saru has me worried, his change has made him seem, less, himself. Plus we still have the original replacement sitting back on Vulcan waiting, the poor bastard.

I think we'll at least see Pike as Acting Captain at least for most of Season 2, then I suspect with reoccurring appearances in 3, in much the same Fashion as we'll see with Spock. Since Discovery apparently took place slightly before the TOS era, they may have at least a year or perhaps 1-2 before Kirk takes over the Enterprise. Even then I don't know if we'll be introduced to a New Kirk, and suspect Pike's role of Season Two to establish a more typical Federation Captain's behavior, and it's possible he's their to mentor &/or decide if one of two Command Officer's are suited for the Captain's Chair. The Two leading contender's might be Saru &/or Burnham, or maybe he might think their both not ready yet?
So who might take Command of Discovery, I think will be a subject of debate the later half of Season 2, depending on how each character develops.

Since there is no definitive timeline for exactly when Pike captained the Enterprise, or for how long, he could stay with Discovery quite a while. With his popularity on the show, expect Pike to remain at least another season. While Saru seems the logical choice, as the ship's current First Officer, the idiots who control this show could throw Burnham in the captain's chair (at which point I will stop watching). It could also be someone we haven't even seen to this point. Rule nothing out.

I believe it will be Saru.
The evolutionary changes I think have made him grow as a commanding officer. Instead of being rigid and thinking only with fear. He has learned to be flexible and reasoned in making command decisions. As in letting Tyler and Culver have their "moment" in the mess hall. This is something even Captain Pike acknowledged.
If it isn't Saru then the aforementioned Captain on Vulcan. I don't foresee Burnham being given Command of any vessel much less one of Starfleet's most advanced ships. I'm also not sure she would seek Command. It seems to me that the priorities of Commander Burnham have changed.
While there is no definite timeline regarding Pike. The Enterprise can only stay in Drydock for so long and she will need her Captain and Science Officer. Whomever takes the center chair after him will have some big shoes to fill.

I agree. We only saw him in TOS during the Pilot's... ...still I'm like you in our thinking, that we don't really know how long he Commanded the "Space Vehicle" Enterprise.
I also figured in my original quote like you, he'll remain most of Season Two, and part of Season 3. But what I slightly expanded upon above, is even if Kirk takes on the Role of Enterprise at some point, will we even see Kirk actor introduced; or just a few notable Name Drops. I suspect the primary linkage with Enterprise will be Spock, given that he's Burnham's brother, and I think they'll want to keep focus on Discovery, aside from a few ties to the past...
Thought I suspect even if Pike leaves the Enterprise, it's very possible he may remain a reoccurring Role, as I don't think that Character was really explained or perhaps what happened to him. Perhaps given a new Command, or maybe a Promotion to Commodore.

But I've also asked as Bridger suggests, which I eluded to above, he's given a new Command, maybe he's not there to evaluate a few Command Officers, but possibly evaluate the Crew as it's new Captain. Which I think would be a nice way to fully develop this character.

Evil doppleganger, Obsessed Maniac, Lunatic with genocidal tendencies and a Mutineer. What are they trying to say about Captains? Mind you, Admirals are all villains apparently, so I suppose it's ok.

2265, Kirk was his direct successor.
I understand that is when the first TOS "Where No Man Has Gone Before" aired in 1965. Though most of the first season seems to fall between 2266–2267.
All I was trying to state similar to the person above, is very little is known from 2256–2257 where Discovery takes place. There is no 'record' of Pike in history, when his Command of the Enterprise officially began, or any mention what other Command's he may have held be it temporarily or otherwise. So it was a looking back statement at history, rather than the looking forward, as some of that is a bit more clear.
So maybe Discovery will eventually answer, did Kirk take command in time from Captain Pike? Only cause in the Alternative Timeline, Kirk there takes command earlier between 2258–2259, and from a Commodore Pike giving the official hand-over, and it was also to whom he later reported to.
I guess we can only wait and see.

Well, from my point of view, it should be Prime Lorca.
*Spoiler*
According to the end of the 2nd Discovery Novel 'Desperate Measures' Prime Lorca nay be still alive
