As Blaster brought up in the most recent story post, another space battle is imminent.

This one's going to be a bit more frantic so I'll overview what's going to be happening.

1) Just as we locate the Nausicaan Destroyer our Orion prisoner told us about, our ship's sensors detect an attack group of fighters and get ready to face them.

2) A round of infighting will occur within the Nausicaan leadership and their overall leader will decide to take the Destroyer from its landing site to lead the rest of their fighters into battle as a second wave.

3) The Ares will launch fighters and use a tactic to disrupt the Nausicaan fighters' formation. They'll scatter and be picked off by the combined efforts of the ship and our fighters. Upon the attack group's defeat, we'll notice the Destroyer's group closing in.

4) Our Fighters will break off and go after the Nausicaan's Mountain Base. With the Destroyer and remaining fighters distracted trying to attack the Ares, it's the perfect time for a "counterattack" to cover the rescue mission. A diversion within a diversion. The evac shuttles would come from the Main Settlement to pick everyone up.

5) The reason for why we sent our Fighters on ahead to the rescue mission shows up, assisting in defeating the Destroyer and fighters.

Anyone have any thoughts on this as we're going to be getting going on it very quickly.

Sorry, didn't get a chance to post today, I'm hoping to do so tomorrow. Just a point of clarification, when we talk about the destroyer, do we mean a Jem Hadar battlecruiser, or the big huge type of Dominion battlecruiser that Red Squad faced in the Valiant? That one was sort of unique, I believe

*L* That was going to be my third option, but I thought it was a crashed Dominion destroyer from the Dominion war, and that it was simply being referred to as a Nausicaan Destroyer because they took it over. But you know, I might be confusing that with the simple recovery of weapons from crashed Dominion ships.

Ok, so I think I'll just put some stats in there. Maybe seven functioning polaron beams, four torpedo bays split fore and aft? Do we want to imagine it as looking like one of the STO ships?

As many of us have visual and play experience with STO, I think it is a good reference for bench-marking ships for tactical or strategic battles.

There may be more detailed information from other games (i.e. Starfleet Battles?) but I think for us here, the common knowledge (and easily referable material) would be Star Trek Online.

And... if anyone wanted super extra credit, they could do a demo-record of the space battle using STO. Well, maybe a screenshot or two.

The Dominion starship which crashed onto Dorvan V is a Battleship, like the one seen in DS9 Season 6; Valiant.

For size reference, it's the big one on the right side of the image.

The destroyer we are up against is a Scourge Destroyer, similar to the ones we see in STO. For visuals, it is using the Jem'Hadar resilient shields due to it being modified with Dominion technology.


The fighters are similar to the Stinger Fighters.

For visuals of what the battle actually looks like, I'll make some still images somewhat inspired by those I've seen on some videos I've seen online. They'll feature silhouettes of the ships to give a general idea of what they look like, with most of the minor details using some imagination. An example of this artstyle;

Edit: I won't be doing the visuals yet as I'm currently working on our Supporting Character / NPC Master Roster. Once the Roster is finished, I'll get going on creating the visuals for us.

Before anyone says anything (*cough* Scarlett *cough* Three *cough*), I like the Excelsior and Miranda. They are both very cool looking and iconic ships; arguably as well known as the Galaxy class. With that said, my character is not a fan of them due to what he brought up in his inner monologue;

Excelsior Class starships had been around for a full century and had been the backbone of the fleet for at least 50 years; them and the Miranda. Personally, he hated those two ships. Yes, the Lakota was the first of her kind of a modernization program of her sister ships but he still held disdain for the starship. Of all the rescue missions his Dominion War starship, the Akira Class starship Icarus, had been sent on, the vast majority involved either an Excelsior or a Miranda. Throughout the Dominion War, Miranda's and Excelsiors had proven incapable of keeping up with the rigors asked of them. The Jem’Hadar knew this and would go out of their way to focus fire on them, occasionally ignoring the more lethal Defiant, Akira, or Galaxy Class starships until they were alone in the fight. To him, they had become little more than cannon-fodder because of how many acquaintances and friends he’d lost serving on them. It was better to keep them attached to scientific roles than combat duties.

As his Fleet was often involved in both heavy fighting and rescue missions during the Dominion War, he saw lots of action and aftermaths of battles. Because the Dominion didn't take many prisoners and also had a habit of destroying escape pods, my character views these ships poorly because it was uncommon to find survivors in the first place. Since the Excelsior and Miranda are among the most common starships within Starfleet, they were also the most destroyed ship during the War. His bad memories of searching for survivors only to find few to none affects his view of these ships as they were the ones he had to locate survivors from the most.

I have an idea as to how to workaround the EM jamming we just got hit with.(I assume that's thing that KO'd our comms?)

Maybe we can use some sort of Short wave frequency comms, like HAM or CB?
