Before anyone says anything (*cough* Scarlett *cough* Three *cough*), I like the Excelsior and Miranda. They are both very cool looking and iconic ships; arguably as well known as the Galaxy class. With that said, my character is not a fan of them due to what he brought up in his inner monologue;
As his Fleet was often involved in both heavy fighting and rescue missions during the Dominion War, he saw lots of action and aftermaths of battles. Because the Dominion didn't take many prisoners and also had a habit of destroying escape pods, my character views these ships poorly because it was uncommon to find survivors in the first place. Since the Excelsior and Miranda are among the most common starships within Starfleet, they were also the most destroyed ship during the War. His bad memories of searching for survivors only to find few to none affects his view of these ships as they were the ones he had to locate survivors from the most.
The NERVE of him, criticizing those stately ships! You get a hundred years out of something, that's good craftsmanship! *LOL* Just kidding, I get it.<br>
By the way, I plan to have the Argo launched in my next post for the assault on the Island base. I'm kind of assuming since it's been exposed as vulnerable, we're going to skip negotiations and take it over? I'm assuming a skeleton force is there, waiting on the weapon array to come back from the mountains.

One base at a time, please! The Argo can deploy to the Mountain Base with the special team for a “rehearsal ” of the Island Base.
We already have the soon-to-be exposed traitor’s capture planned to happen next, specifically once Jei and Cushings come back. Let’s finish up our current stuff with the space battle and mountain rescue, along with the traitor’s upcoming exposure/capture, before attacking the Island.

HAM or CB are a good idea but both parties would have to have the same idea in order to be able to talk to one another.
How about Laser point to point? Or just let our engineers and scientists loose and live up to the Miracle Worker reputation to fix the problem?
Laser sounds like a good idea! I'd love to do ham or CB at some point in a future story, though, or even this one! Sorry, I accidentally tally downvoted this!
I feel inclined to clarify my comment on the timing of things with an actual "timetable" so everyone has an idea on what the plan is for upcoming major plot points in this chapter and can start thinking ahead;
Finishing the Space Battle with the Nausicaan Destroyer
Mountain Rescue - ( coinciding with the end of the space battle / immediately following )
Rescue of Jei and Christopher - ( 'nail in coffin' on identifying traitor to be brought with them )
Exposure / Capture of Traitor & Extremists - ( begins almost immediately after rescue )
Brief Downtime - ( characters having a breather due to experiencing a lot of action, chance for character development )
Assault on Mountain Base - ( the last major event to happen in chapter )
Wrap Up of Chapter 2
There is room for plenty of minor / individual plot points within these main ones. For instance, we're going to spend some time repairing the ship and have an away team check out the remains of the crashed Dominion Battleship in the mountains. Don't worry about rushing through things as I want us to continue enjoying ourselves here.
USS Angelic will be joining us briefly at the end of Chapter 2 for crew & civilian transfers. She'll be around to help safeguard the colony until reinforcements arrive in the form of Cardassian ships while also further studying & salvaging the Dominion Battleship. The Lakota will be taking the prisoners we've taken off our hands and take them to a secure location to await trial while we move on to our exploration mission.
Sorry, everyone, for that hhuuuuuuuge cave picture in my last mountain post. I do a lot of posting from my phone, which shrinks the size of everything to a manageable proportion. I was unaware of how huge the cave picture was until I did some posting from a PC. So I just edited it to take the picture out entirely.
I am always shaky about posting shield damage. *L* You'll notice in my last post, I only called it out once. If anyone feels the numbers should be edited, or more numbers should be added in, just let me know! Shield damage is so sketchy in the show, because it's one of those things that is completely subjective to the story, it appears. I'm thinking we're probably down in the 40's percentage wise, now.
Should I bring Tess's sister in at the end of Chapter two? Or the downtime bit?
Might be best after Chapter 2, because we're going to a Deep Space station (Deep Space 3?) and that's a natural point for bringing in new characters, or pushing out old ones.

Since we are going to be in Chapter 2 for a good while longer, you can bring her in much earlier. For ideas on how to introduce her, she could already be on the ship or be arriving via a shuttle. We actually had someone join us towards the start of this chapter with a runabout. It's up to you on what you'd like to do.
FYI, Deep Space 3 is the planned destination for Chapter 4. We have a bit of a plan for Chapter 3 but I realized recently that quite a few plot points are extremely similar to what we've been doing over the last 2 Chapters. We'll do some more brainstorming on what to do soon.
Let's assume Max made it up to the bridge before the battle & is at station. I think it'd be a bit....inappropriate to be a bit late to the party. HEH LOL
I have an idea as to how to workaround the EM jamming we just got hit with.(I assume that's thing that KO'd our comms?)
Maybe we can use some sort of Short wave frequency comms, like HAM or CB?
Based on what is described in the article, Electromagnetic Pulses are high intensity bursts of electromagnetic energy (light and magnetism) which can disrupt circuitry. This means our ship's communications systems are suffering from an "overload" of incoming signals. One possible way to clear this is to transfer more power to our own communication system in a competition of who has the stronger power source to get a signal out. Another way would be to filter out the impacted frequencies and search for one we can use to communicate with the Lakota.
Blaster has requested to create a new character to join the ship's crew as our new Chief Science Officer. Since Tess's role is limited due to their role with our ship's fighters, I'm approving the request.
I think the new CSO's appearance can be explained by him/her being either a new transfer from the Lakota or a Junior Officer on the Ares we haven't had a chance to meet yet.
FYI, I'm going to update the Ship's Log as the 2 weeks, the original "in-story timetable" for the mission to Dorvan V, feels extremely short for everything we've been doing so I'm increasing it to 3 weeks.
I'm going to start on the post that brings Akyv on board as an NPC. Is it unusual & out of place to have a civilian nurse work in a Starfleet sickbay? She wants to help out where she can.

Not really strange or out of place. There have been plenty of instances within Star Trek episodes where civilians are onboard the ship doing something. However, you did mention in your last story post that she was contacting you from Starbase 10.
If you make an edit to that post saying her message to you came from a civilian ship that just entered the system, then introducing her won’t be a problem. Maybe you can introduce a supporting character for Sam in the Diplomacy department while you’re at it, like an aide. That way it would make the arrival official business for Starfleet yet personal for your character.
