Personally this is my favourite episode by far, just solely on the basis of the episode name.

berny is such a whiny baby . the only scene I like out of the whole ep was the real martial arts display ( even though most was sort of of camera) at least that was real the rest wasnt so good I wioll probably have to rematch it because I was so turned of from the whining that I kind of lost interest and started to basically listen to the show until the michele show some of her ballet and very very basic martial arts ( mostly dancing) skill it was more interesting then the rests of the ep but again I think I will have to re-watch it and maybe fast forward through the whinny parts

So Control is already conscious and it wants to get the data from the Sphere to become conscious. Good Writing
Control is using Nano-Technology that surpasses the level of Borg-Technology of the 24th Century.

*Reference to Bridger's quote above, forgoing quotations.
As I understood it, Pike or the Discovery crew 'thought' Control wanted consciousness for that purpose; mean while 'Control' wanted 'consciousness' or Leland, as a perfect tool to achieve the end means--the data from the sphere.
As I had 'started' to think similar to the author below, and she also shared my thoughts above--reference to first post in this thread.
This lady raises some excellent questions, and a similar albeit different analysis to Bridger's Borg reference. But I won't spoil her thunder, and encourage people read it. Because I think she raises an amazing point. But no spoilers here so encourage you all to read it:

Perhaps that might greatly expand the debate on this one?

I thought the borg origin had already been established as V’ger when it took Decker and Ilea?

That was in one of the books I think, but in hard canon we only know that they originated as an organic species in the Delta Quadrant.

Like sands through the hourglass, these are the Days of Our Lives: Star Trek: Discovery....
For those that don't get the reference, Days of Our Lives is a very long running soap opera, daytime melodrama TV show, here in the USA.
That's how I feel about Discovery at this point. It's a melodrama. I can't see this as any future version of humanity. If humanity becomes, or arguably, stays this undisciplined and angst-ridden in the future, there's no way we make it out to the stars, let alone advance as a civilization here on Earth!
Burnham shows a remarkably inappropriate level of emotion and lack of discipline for an officer on a starship, especially for someone raised on Vulcan!
Why is Dr. Burnham tied to the future while out of her timesuit? Isn't the time-travel only enabled by the timesuit? I know that they mentioned that the timesuit was DNA coded to Dr. Burnham, but that is to avoid others using her suit, right? (Aside from possibly Burnham, because of mitochondrial DNA...UGH!!!) Why would she be anchored to the future anyway? It wasn't her origin point. Why anchor her 950 years in the future, or whatever time it is, when that wasn't her origin point or input destination? First time-jump is permanent...future time-jumps are only temporary? That makes no sense.
The Borgification of Leland by Control looked cool, but they better not be doing a re-imagining of the Borg origin story!
Spock, ' I like science.' Uhmm, fire whoever wrote that line. Also, what's with the whole future visions being sent to Spock, and only Spock? It's a nice nod to those with disabilities having value, but the whole thing is handled clumsily, like a Force vision. The Force is strong with Spock...and Dr. Burnham, apparently!
I really didn't care for this episode, which sadly is becoming the norm.

I apologize I took two separate posts and qouted them into one
for some reason Vger popped into my head then Burnham got all soft and I lost interest in the ep. but Vger going back in time because it already has gone every where else it could think of

If I had to ask one question of the writers, it'd be, "Why did you make Burnham so whiny?"
Captain: Commander Stamets will lead the mission down to the planet.
Burnham: I should be the one to go down, she's MY mother.
Captain: You're not going, other people are better for this mission.
Burnham: But my momma..
Captain: Once again, no. Stamets has got this.
Burnham: Pleeeeeease.
After they wrote some really good scenes and banter between her and Spock, they reduce her to an unprofessional, immature mess.
But, it was good to see the doc back on his feet and in uniform again.
Michelle Yeoh continues to be the best thing about this show.
