Time to see this and come back with feedback. Then let the silent dislike wars begin!
One more slice of forced diversity and shoddy writing or will this be a gem like the episode of Saru's homeworld? Stay tooned and find out!
Truth is uncomfortable most of the times. That's why you gotta face it every time.

I liked the episode other than Burnham involvement in this arc and making her the 'uncertain variable'. I very much like this episode for showing a Klingon homeworld, the shot of the D7 and Pike's involvement in the same.
I low-key was hoping control would be done with Burnham, but oh well. We all know that ain't happening. Interesting cliff hanger, no more USS Pizza Cutter?! - another thing which I don't think will necessarily happen but lets see how the writers play this out.
Time to see how Borg-31 and control get linked towards a resistance is futile future.

The show is about Burnham. It makes sense for the plot to center around the main character.
Which to me is the problem Discovery has, if it wasn't for Burnham being the focus, I would probably like Disovery about 50% more.

Yeah, we're two years into this. At this point, it should not come as a surprise to anyone that the plot points in a show about Burnham revolve around Burnham.
And I liiiiiiiike the Discoprise! I think it's a pretty nice compromise between the old and new!

My favorite part of the episode was this interaction between Rett and Culber
Yeah, that was pretty good. I love her character. On one hand, she seems totally clueless about proper social interaction, bringing up a sore subject with Stamets at dinner, but she was most likely just using her "jerk persona" as a front, because she knew she was going to try to fix the situation, but didn't want any thank you's.
*LOL* Her walking into Sickbay, man......it reminded me of myself. At work, I always call Human Resources every time I get a papercut. I act really dramatic about it and ask for a workplace injury packet. Most people know I'm just joking up there, but once, I got a new person, and told her that I was holding my hand above my head and trying not to faint. *LOL* She actually came down with the packet, thinking I was seriously injured. *LOL*

So I have a confession.
I've been watching Doomcock's videos on YouTube regarding Discovery. He is currently reviewing all of the episodes of Discovery. Not that this is a real surprise but he hates all of them. However he does bring up some good points during his videos.
One of the points he presented was why haven't they considered destroying Discovery to prevent the Data from reaching control? I actually wondered the same thing. We've seen it before. Kirk destroyed the Enterprise to eliminate a boarding party. Janeway (duplicate) destroyed Voyager to prevent it from falling into enemy hands. Jean-Luc Picard was even willing to destroy the Enterprise-E to prevent its complete assimilation.
This week after all hope was lost and the greater good demanded it. We saw the crew prepare to destroy the ship. If that happens I'll be surprised and a little sad. But somehow I think they'll come up with a solution.
The Timey Whimey aspect of Borath was a little odd. But at least we got to see Captain Pike's future. I think they did it justice.
Seems like the reason why they didn't destroy Discovery is the reason why they dont destroy any ship - they try all other options until self destruct is the only option. This week, it became the only option. Prior to that, the mission was just destroying Control through Ariam and Leland. Now that's its known that it commands a fleet of ships, well, there's no other option.
Its hilarious, by the way, that this Doomcock hates Discovery so much, yet he watches and reviews it. I suppose I cant really hate on him that much for trying to profit off of hatewatching. If it works, it works....

It seems to work for him. There is some things that he says that I actually laugh at. I try to take in both points of view & I don't allow him to tank the show for me.
But everytime he calls Admiral Cornwell by the moniker Admiral Kathleen Kennedy. I lose it. lol

See the difference with Discovery is that she is not treated like all the other hero ships, in all other shows there is an "emotional" connection between the crew, audience and the ship and this is something totally missing with Discovery so if she blows up she blows up.
I remember when I saw the Enterprise, Enterprise-D and Defiant go I had a tear in my eye.

I won't argue that the decision to make this show about Burnham (or any character for that matter) instead of an ensemble show wasn't a good one in my book. However, in my view, since that is the direction they went they might as well own it and make it about Burnham.
A lot of the issues with the show I think were actually decision made by Fuller and it seems to me the current production staff is kind of stuck with certain things that they are trying to move away from. They did a great job with the Enterprise redesign/update, and I think they managed to do the uniforms justice while sticking with the Discovery aesthetic which again, i feel like they are stuck with a bit.
As far as the Burnham focus goes, that was Fuller and it's possible there is a contractual obligation involved at this point.

See I never had an emotional connection to the ships like some other fans. I love the crews and I like the looks of the ships but the destruction of the 1701, Defiant, and Big D never really affected me.
That being said, my hope is that the USS Discovery, NCC-1031-A will be a constitution class ship

Seems to me the weirdness around Discovery is a result of Fuller's ideas not coming fully to fruition. I kind of think that Fuller wanted an anthology series, with a different story each year, as had been reported previously. So we get the Michael Burnham/Klingon war story, and boom, next year we're onto something different. The background characters really wouldn't matter, because it's about Burnham, with Tyler, Saru, Lorca, and Georgiou being the other chief characters. But they didn't like the constant changing after a year, and just decided to use Fuller's idea that was only supposed to last for one year. Now there are questions about how the whole thing works long term, and how far they're going to go before butting up against TOS, when it was never designed to be that way.
I hope the Discovery A is a Constitution Class as well!

Yeah, there's less emotion involved with the actual ship this time, especially since we've only known it for two years.
Is it odd that the one I remember just being floored by was the Defiant? *L* I remember watching STIII as a kid, but I think I might have known about 5 prior to seeing 3, so maybe it wasn't all that shocking to me. I was six when III came out, and probably saw that one on broadcast television for the first time years afterward. Seeing the D go down in theaters was stunning, to be sure, but somehow the destruction of the Defiant caught me totally off guard. I just didn't think they were going to destroy any more ships like that, even though I'd seen two Enterprises go down. *LOL* This week, I was surprised that they'd consider destroying it, but it makes sense, because it'd bring an end to the Spore Drive. Still, who knows, they might not actually do it.

Assuming that Calypso short is considered canon (I'm not sure one way or the other how it sits in) then we'll not be seeing the Discovery go up in a bright light, though we do know it'll be abandoned and set adrift at some point.
A new Discovery being a Constitution would be up for debate. Kirk mentions in Tomorrow is Yesterday, which would fall around 2266 that there are only 12 Constitution class ships in service and at least 9 of these are accounted for.

Enterprise, Exeter, Excalibur, Lexington, Yorktown, Potemkin, Republic, Hood, Constitution, Kongo, Constellation, Farragut, Valiant, and Intrepid. No room there for Discovery-A unless they're saying that Discovery is a replacement for one of the Connies that were destroyed/lost but I didn't think that happened until much later.

Forgot about that!

The show is about Burnham. It makes sense for the plot to center around the main character.
True. This makes the name of the show deceptive. 'Star Trek: Discovery' implies a kinship to Star Trek shows before it. All of those previous shows were ensembles. Discovery was misnamed. It should have been named 'Burnham: A Star Trek Story'. There is no ambiguity about what that show would be about. It may have enjoyed/suffered the same fan feedback as Discovery has received, but there would have been no doubt what you were watching. As it currently is, some of us keep hoping beyond hope that this show will become what it's name implies.
I'll try not to get so 'triggered' by episodes, like this one, where Burnham is the center of the universe, but I won't make any promises!
