Buffing others is not what STO gameplay has been engineered to be though.

I dunno though, its meant to be a dreadnaught but nothing about the seating style and turn rate makes it seem like one.

I was personally highly anticipating this ship but will hold off from purchasing it till I can think how I can play it in an enjoyable manner.

The term "dreadnought" in STO is meaningless though as it's banded about all over the place.

The initial inception of the term in WWI was to describe a new type of battleship with its ranged firepower being from a battery of large caliber guns. All other guns were only for short range defense purposes and not suited to offensive situations. I guess STO's is trying to follow that idea by making them essentially cruisers able to mount DHC's; they are large tough ships with the ability to mount heavy weaponry but not as nimble as smaller faster battlecruisers.

But STO throws the name onto any ship over a certain size it seems and combines it with a hanger, a low turn rate and aims it at a more "back of the field" type role; throwing out fighters, heavy salvos or supporting the rest of the fleet.

A lot of STO's ship class names are really just being used because they are cool sounding, with no idea of the historic origin of them. A dreadnought is always a battleship, as such it should be the most powerful ship out there in terms of offensive potential with ranged guns. But in game almost any ship from any class can easily out-DPS any other class, regardless of the initial idea behind them. I guess it allows people to play anything they want but I think it lacks any sense of decent ship building outside of "stuff it full of gunz and fire all the thingz".
If there was a trinity approach and content to allow it to shine then maybe some of the variety we should have could stand a chance; sadly that is something for STO2.

I know I said I was gonna wait to see if they release a Mirror Cardenas, but I am rather tempted to unlock it while it's on sale....she is so a pretty ship.

I'm thinking I could buy the Cardenas and sell the Mirror Engle I still have and get something else with the EC.

She is as fast/slow as the Galaxy, so put on Prevailing Impulse Engines, Conn-Hologramm and Emergancy Power to Engines and done.

Im certainly going to grab the bundle this evening. I've said it once and I'll say it again, Im happy with any new ship that Thomas and the team add regardless of stats. The recent Disco ships of late have been superb and I always seem to make the most out of them as I've never been a big DPS player. Yes, I do like making things go boom, but I also like flying around and replaying the occasional mission exploring the maps. Cant wait till this evening.

I'm still on the fence, haven't made my mind up yet, but it is a fantastic looking ship. I think it's one that would be best suited to an engineer character so if I did get it, I'd probably go down that route.

Many of my alts now exist for no other purpose than to farm out marks and such, it might be fun to start over again with a new one.

Whatever else anyone thinks about Discovery, I do really like the ship designs they came up with for the Federation.
