I haven't been keeping up with the social media and other parts of the development community like I use to but I was wondering, have they said that thtey cannot do a Tier 6 version of a Luna-class science starship? I know that the Tier 5 version is still in the game but I was wondering if there were rights issues involved or I'm just an odd-ball and no one else likes it like I do and thus its not a ship they see any money in.

They said that eventually there should be a T6 version of most if not all of the T5 ships....when it will happen though is anyone's guess.

I always thought the Luna was a cool ship. Would enjoy seeing a T6 version sometime.

Pretty much this. I just hope they don't make it a lockbox ship like they did with the Connie, although I wouldn't put it past them to do a straight Cash grab.

I'll just be glad when they sort out the mess they left in the wake of t5u and scaling t6 ships.

The Luna is not a major on-screen hero ship and hence not a cash cow. Despite that, if a T5 is on cstore, then T6 will also be on cstore.

I suppose the next T6 in line from 2410 storyline will be Oberth. On STO Reddit that ship has had a lot of requests lately.

Indeed, although with all the new changes they're making, we've really no garauntee they'll stick to what they've always done.

As to the aesthetics, I completely concur with your analysis- I think they'd be better off doing away with "tiering" altogether and selling the skins separately for a modest cost (20% of hull cost, for example) so that people may customize as they wish and they can focus on adding more value to future individual ship classes instead of minor variations of the exact same hulls and double-dipping customers.

As an LTS and having spent a lot more money on the game than I'd care to admit, I'd love to see the future direction be a bit more sustainable... rather than rendering past customer investments into obsoletion as they attempt to attract more playerbase.

The Luna is actually a design from a book so it’s not as easy to get permission as the other designs. I’d imagine there could be legal wrangling involved but as there’s already a T5 version that might make it easier.
It is a nice looking ship anyway so I’d happily have a T6 version as an addition to my ships.

I don't think there are any rights issues over the Luna class preventing a T6 version. When Cryptic got the rights to use another book based ship, the Vesta (designed by Mark Rademaker), neither he nor Cryptic had much good to say about the whole thing, with the attitude from both sides appearing to be that it was "more trouble than it's worth".

The Luna on the other hand was designed by Sean Tourangeau, becoming the winning entry for the Star Trek: Titan novels. This came about as a competition run by Pocket Books and part of the terms was that CBS would own the copyright for the winning entry. As it happens, Pocket Books is a division of Simon & Schuster and guess who they're owned by? Yup, CBS.

So while not a canon ship, it doesn't have the same issues as the Vesta did.

If there were rights issues we wouldn't have T5, since those are designed exactly as depicted. The T6 ship models are an artistic take and design rehash from Cryptic itself anyway.

It's really a matter of the Devs getting to it. That's all.
