IMO if they are trapped by CBS to release such an iconic ship in this way they should just not bother. Show some decency in the players and fans and just say, "you know what, we're not going to screw over the players just because of the network greed".

Sure it won't make them money but i'd sooner pay a sensible price for a well meaning ship/item than be shafted by CBS/Cryptic just to play something I always wanted.
Honestly if it's only possible to add it in costing a billion EC or in a lootbox....I'd rather it just didn't exist.

I'm more of a 'actions speak louder than words' guy, as of lately, their actions have not really been indicating to consider account is the player philosophy anymore.

This. I can't help but think that their show would garner more love and support among the fan base if more people were allowed to fly the Disco Connie around. As it is, it's just one more reason for me to dislike just about everything to do with Disco.

Yup. The other Discovery ships they have added are spectacular looking in terms of the models and attention to details. They really are some of the best models we've ever had for ships, regardless of if you like the actual ships they represent from DSC.
Their looks alone have got me to buy a couple so far and my free T6 will probably be a 3rd, with my Zen saved up for a Hoover class in the future too.

They make so much effort for the designs and then piss it all away locking it behind lootbox mechanics.

Honestly I "hope" that this stirs something in the players, but i highly doubt it. There's too many people who are quite vocal in the community who will still buy it regardless of the rage.
If people like the DPS crowd boycotted it, and openly posted about the fact it might just wake people up but i'm not convinced.

From what I understand is CBS wants these ships rare....releasing them in R&D is better than not releasing them at all. It's a damned if you do damned if you don't situation.

If they do as you want and not release them then they will upset people and constantly get asked when they're going to release them or why they don't release them, they will get requests to release them (Just look at the TOS Connie). This way the price will upset them but people can still obtain it one day if they work for it.

I mean do you ask Bugatti to stop making cars because you can't afford one? Something is better than nothing to a lot of people!

I don't think the rage will change much in the long run though. We might get a few small concessions here and there, but probably nothing meaningful. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Cryptic need to take a look at SWTOR for loot matters. TOR is a prime example of how to treat the player as the account thanks to the Cartel Collection Store.

Sure it will take a long time, but anything in this game is obtainable without spending a penny...that alone makes it one of the better systems. Sure Cryptic can do more, but at the same time they have one of the lest rigid systems I've seen.

That's essentially my point. With TOR, like STO, you need to find or get the item from the loot box to start out with through whatever means. Their exchange, a player trade or whatnot. You may not want to do it and that's the player choice, but if you want to access it across your account, the option is there..

Compared to STO, you could spend 6 months grinding out a ship and then finally get your hands on it. Then you make an alt and decide you'd like another one for them. That's another 6 months of grinding, whereas in something like TOR, the choice is there to do it in about 6 seconds at a vastly reduced cost if you so wish. If you go down that route in STO, it's paying the full whack again.

Would it be nice to get free account unlocks out of loot boxes? Absolutely. Is it going to happen without a seismic shift in the industry? Probably not.
