Though I’m doubtful it will go anywhere it’s certainly going to get noticed I hope and get people to wake up. It’s also interesting that the mods at r/sto agreed to allow said post, they must feel genuinely about it or it would have been closed.

At the very least, Cryptic may start addressing our concerns we've been raising for a good year over lockboxes, promo boxes, lobi ships and do /something/ about them.

But I'm not hoping for anything at this point. It's just good to see someone stand up against this.

They could go the premium ship category in the Zen store and charge equivalent to a lockbox/promo ship in order to maintain revenue.

Today's live stream will be interesting that's for sure. Honestly it's a little draining whenever they release these types of ships especially since they aren't account wide, makes the game feel like chore if your grinding to get a ship, especially if it's only for one toon, takes the fun out of it.

I do not envy Kael in the slightest as people will use him as a scapegoat. Hopefully they'll keep it civil. Judging by the sheer vitriol on some of the reddit forums, I kinda doubt it.

In all seriousness though, they have nothing to apologize for. First, the developers and community manager are not the ones who decide how these ships are sold; that falls onto the producers, financial, and Marketing people to maximize profits.

I mean, I also see there clearly is a part of playerbase who enjoys this gamble and probably even supports the likes of Cryptic and EA for the same. Each to their own.

I don't blame developers and community managers - if anything they made me like Discovery on STO which CBS miserably failed at (for me). But it's also inevitable, like in any corporation, the client-facing staff does get the flak. So while Kael has nothing to be apologetic for, he knows his job and what he signed up for

Most likely #2, considering that's the way they've handled the game for years now. Business as usual.

That's how most businesses operate- unless there's a legal reason to compel them to change their policies, they simply don't. Long gone are the days where they cared about "consumer reports" and worried about the BBB, now most are just in it to squeeze every red cent they can as quickly as they can so the owners can retire and sip martinis in Tahiti.

That's if the case doesn't just get thrown out to begin with.

I just don’t see how there is any case here. Cryptic lists everything you get in the box. You are guaranteed to get something of value, 100% of the time. You are guaranteed to get Lobi, 100% of the time. Gambling by definition means you have a chance to end up with nothing.

It’s a prize box with a guaranteed prize.

Lock boxes are optional and you don't need a T6 ship to do endgame content. At best it will probably be a slap on the wrist of making them list drop rates, I've seen this happen with several gacha games I play/played
