I've never really seen that sort of thing as an issue for Star Trek tbh.
It is set in a galaxy filled with all manner of alien species all of whom developed various technologies at varying rates. So there's always going to be someone somewhere who is vastly behind on tech compared to others.
It never stopped the Pakleds becoming a pain in the arse in TNG, it didn't mean Voyager was instantly wiped out like a flea against the Voth, it didn't make Iconian technology so powerful it was unbeatable in various episodes, V'ger and even the Whale Probe could still be "defeated" despite being vastly superior to anything going up against them.
Star Trek is more about the story itself, rather than the specific of the technology and absolute realism. Voyager went a bit loopy with technology being the means to fix anything and I think it made people think it was all the mattered. In TOS and TNG we often saw the crew work past threats with much more ingenious ways. I'm hoping that's what S3 brings to the mix.
Also from some hints in Calypso, the Federation might not be doing that well 1k years in the future, or it has transformed into something else.
They were jumping to Tera Ellisium as a safe harbor and they had regressed to around the late 1700s level of technology after being transported to the planet before the Big Boom that was WW3. Might be that Discovery's tech level is just A OK when she reaches the future.
Granted I also agree with Sul in that its the crew, not the ship that matters. I was iffy on the first season mostly because I dislike Mirror Universe storylines personal (there is nothing at all wrong with them, I just don't personally like them and some of the best DS9 could be considered MU stories) Once we were down to MU Georigiou I was pretty ok with how things were turning out, and I think the cast is finding their feat with the characters more in season 2 as well.

That's why I'm going to give it a few episodes before beaming off so to speak. The show has had it's issues but I don't feel that it warrants the absolute thrashing it's received from certain corners of the internet. Although I watch Doomcock & Midnight's Edge just to get a different perspective.
I'm hoping with Kurtzman's influence being curtailed that some things will begin to change and some of the more traditional Trek elements will return. The time jump isn't something that I am overtly thrilled about but to quote James T. Kirk, "lets see what's out there."

Kurtzman’s influence wasn’t curtailed. He’s in charge of all of it.

At least we won't have those 'it's not prime timeline' arguments any more as they're way beyond Nemesis. Let's hope that they get visited by the Temporal Investigations branch, those guys ruled in the episode "Trials and Tribbleations"

Kurtzman’s influence wasn’t curtailed. He’s in charge of all of it.
His title may indicate as such. But he was replaced on ST: Picard as showrunner by Michael Chabon and Michelle Paradise is "sharing" the role with Kurtzman on Discovery. I treat what I see on YouTube as rumor until otherwise shown. But all signs are pointing to him being shelved at CBS. They're just doing it slowly and quietly.
If i'm wrong I'll be the first person to admit to it.

He was never the showrunner on Picard. He got it started, then handed it off. He will do the same on the future shows as well.
Believe what you like though, you’ll just be disappointed.
