What urgs me is how terrible the model of the original D7 is compared to Disco7 and the Kelvin D7 that they have shown not to mention how bad the K'tinga model is.

Regardless of what people may or may not think of the Kelvin Timeline, Beyond was a huge wasted opportunity. It's probably the best of all the 3 films as it invoked the biggest TOS feeling of them all, but Paramount squandered it essentially. It was the 50th anniversary year, they never really pushed the film, they never used the anniversary angle and while not a box office bomb as it was a pretty good film, the box office returns were a disappointment.

It'll be interesting to see a few ships from that era showing up in the game, as from the films the Kevlin Starfleet, unlike Prime Starfleet, seems to grasp the concept of point defence based on the deployable turrets aboard the USS Kelvin.

Well this is sobering, but not surprising, what do you think Cryptic can do to get the numbers back up?

Hire someone who has an idea how to run successful MMO's and give him a free hand and fire Geko.

They've dug themselves into a hole that they may not be able to get out of without moving on to STO 2.0.

The game makes most of its money off of loot boxes, which often involve power creep and Crytpic has shown they will give into the pressure of the whales that don't want their power creep nerfed. Their only options are risk biting the hand that feeds them or keep on business as usual....they're going with the safer bet.

It's not even the whales who are in it for the powercreep though. They just buy anything and everything regardless of how good it actually it.
The true DPS chasers can see when something is not worth their gold and make people aware, but whales just go and buy any old junk Cryptic throws out.

Well either way, it's people spending time and or money to obtain the most powerful things in game....last time Cryptic tried to balance stuff a bit players came in and complained, not only did Cryptic revert most of the balances...the end result ended up creating a even larger gap for power creep and they have been on that path ever since.

I remember in the early days of STO, PVP players complained that science was too OP. (Back in the days when PVP was much more prevalent). Cryptic swung the nerf bat hard, called it rebalancing and it was a bad time for sci players for a few years. It's amusing to see that now power creep is so ingrained into the game, Cryptic seem to have abandoned all efforts at truly balancing it. I think that you're correct and the only way they'd be able to fix it is with STO v2.0. But Cryptic don't seem to be able to get out of the lockbox mindset so they'd probably screw a new game up with power creep lockboxes right from the get go.

Wouldn't Spock's Jellyfish ship be considered cannon anyway because it was from the prime timeline? So it would be expected to be seen anyway.

Even in a game like SWG, which had no end game I didn't feel so restricted because it had healthy PvP...you just can't get that in STO...and if you want to stand a chance you need to blow billions on gear, traits, and fly a boring cookie cutter build.

In one way or another many, at least Deep Space PvP setups, were also somewhat cookie cutter. Maximise reactor energy, minimise mass used, maximise weapon damage while keeping mass / energy usage low, etc. Granted it had more space for experimenting around, which was fun. It's been years now, and I still miss my RGI, Oppressor and Heavy XWing

Cryptic have year to year roadmap.. not longterm roadmap..
Hopefully some serious company will buy Cryptic and save STO

I doubt it, MMOs are kinda a dying market and that is mostly what Cryptic does is MMOs.

To be honest I think Star Trek would have to be booming at like Star Wars levels...or probably above the current Star Wars, just for someone to perhaps have some interest.

Star Trek's problem and it always has been, is that it is NOT promoted well enough. take Star Wars for instance, you cant go into any retail store without seeing something dedicated to Star Wars...…. Star Trek? you have to buy it online.
