So i saw this link posted on the STO Reddit page and thought it would be of interest here:

Personally I think this is a step in the right direction. If nothing else it at least forces gaming companies to show odds and that in itself would hopefully let people make up their own minds about if it's worth gambling or not.
Currently the only thing you have as a basis for odds is a vague feeling when you partake in gambling on boxes or some player gathered data that may or may not be meaningful in any way. Right now the ball is thoroughly in their court; this might swing things back a bit to our side.
Of course it won't stop people using lootboxes overnight, but it at least opens up the mechanics to more scrutiny and might protect vulnerable players from throwing vast sums at the sort of thing casinos and betting shops are heavily regulated for.

Cryptic won't do anything unless there will be a literal law where they have to do it.
