Well the Shock and Awe approach in this case is more shock, less Awe. It'd be more aligned to a shock and awe tactic if you have people already there beaming in the moment those shields go down in a tactically beneficial position rather than hoping you land in a tactically beneficial position and setting it all up. The variables on if the fighters shut down the shield in time for the HALO jump to land and not smack into the shield is.. questionable. Ground installation shields typically can be stronger than a ships own shield. Since they don't need to dedicate power and can have an entire generator working on it.
Thats how I look at it anyway xD

Sorry, I tried to respond to this twice on my phone yesterday and the message got eaten!
So, it occurs to me that I really haven't discussed my OOC view of what's going on here with this last bit of the operation, and that's my fault. I apologize. I haven't actually had a conversation on this issue in quite some time, because the idea is a long time coming.
Basically, this all started from some in character comments Asteropax made with the Lt. Kurts NPC. Kurts wanted to rig the ship's Argo shuttle to be able to deploy people from the bottom, instead of an Argo buggy from the back. I spoke OOC with Asteropax on this, and basically, the idea was for a HALO jump at the Island base. When I took over that part, I had NPC Kurts present the plan to Biiqs, who said it was crazy, but he was going to rely on Kurts' credentials and the trust that the captain had in him. By the way, I see Kurts as a funloving guy, but very, very good at what he does. Very intelligent and capable although he seems like a goof off at times.
But anyway, here's my conception of the Island base, or Island fortress as it's been called as well. I dont know if we've ever really had a description of it. So this is how I see it - I kind of think it's just of Nausicaan design, used as a staging point in their planetary operations. It's not a fortress of any true sort, just prefabbed buildings for barracks, equipment and ore storage, landing areas for shuttles/planetary craft, etc. The reason why I envision it that way is because the Dorvanites haven't really colonized the whole planet, and neither have the Cardassians. There's the main settlement, and some settlements in the mountains with few people. So any thing that is on that island is probably things that the Nausicaans brought in, not existing structures.
That being said, I don't really think it's a substantially hardened target. The shield is not like a capital city grade shield or anything, and might even be a Dominion ship shield reverse engineered to be used as a ground shield. Nothing that cant be battered down and overloaded with time.
So, what happens when you batter down the shield? The first thing I thought, since you have an intelligent leader, is that he's going to place transport inhbitors or Remat detonators (the Romulan things that scramble you when a transporter is used) to provide some extra protection if the shield falls. So the Halo jumpers can come in, establish a beachhead with transport inhibitors, and then allow for the beaming in of more people.
By the way, there's a canon way to drop the landing party without chutes and also allow them to abort the emission if the shield isn't down. I was saving that little tidbit for later. I wrote that bit probably months ago.
So do you kind of see where I'm coming from with the just battering it down thing? And also, what are all of your opinions on how the ground base should be, and/or the defenses? I'm thinking maybe tunnels underneath, like maybe even an escape craft for Grakan. Should we let him escape?
Also, I think Biiqs is going to synthesize all of the ideas. Thane's shield barrier tech would allow them to go through the shield during the assault, and surprise the Nausicaans who were waiting for them to actually breach the shield before beaming down or shuttling down. While they're busy with the air attack, the squad can attack them from within.

Thane's idea of slipping through the shield doesn't work if they are travelling at high speed. It needs a little time to set up and is single use. Its a rigged device. As it messes with the stability of a particular section of the shield temporarily. It alters the area temporarily on a molecular level to allow matter to pass through.
A Dominion shield would be a tough nut to crack as it would be a reinforced sjnce it only has half a hemisphere to project. Thd layout pf the facility seems reasonable. When ya say fortres I think a good and proper pirate base. This layout is more supporting to a sneak-in and then SURPRISE! That is a good shock n awe tactic. The defensive emplacements work, probably automated to the sensor grid, needing someone to push buttons and thats it.

Hmmn….how much time are we talking here? Like a minute or two to actually physically calibrate it, or like ten, fifteen minutes. If the former, we could alter the plan to land outside the shield wall, or beam in. If it takes too long, I don't think we want the troops exposed in lieu of just battering the shield down.
A Dominion shield would be a tough nut to crack as it would be a reinforced sjnce it only has half a hemisphere to project. Thd layout pf the facility seems reasonable. Yeah, I'm not thinking that the Nausicaans had a long time to actually dig in with a fortress stye pirate base. Had they been allowed to completely open up operations on the planet, they would have had that. And I think even with only having to project in a hemisphere, you still have to rig it to work from a completely different power supply. It doesn't have a shuttle size warp core powering it like it would in a ship, or the benefit of a large military grade power supply. At the best, they're probably dealing with a shuttle size warp core. And even on ships, you can batter down a shield pretty easily, especially if the target cannot maneuver and you can concentrate your fire on a certain area.

It'd take roughly a minute to calibrate and work, then operate for about a minute before it burns out. So they'll get in but not get out without the shield going down.

That should be good enough to alter the plan. It makes sense to have total surprise.

Great! I'll send you a few things I'd thought about on how I think the wedding ceremony will go. I know I mentioned in my story post about having the Joining of the Bloodlines just before presenting the ring but I wanted to make sure everything works for you before I actually write out a full script for it.

Sorry about the lateness of a reply. I will be getting to it soon!
No problem! By the way, if you really want Thane to go on the jump, I've thought of a way for it to happen. As you see the way I'm playing Kurts, my first thought was that he wouldn't really be open to that. And in my head, he isn't, but that is as simple as just taking the machine to Lt. Sy and her not feeling comfortable with it, which basically forces Kurts' hand.
