considering that when Season 3 premiers Discovery will now be in the 32nd Century... so logically Saru should be captain, with Burnham as his first officer.... but there is also the possibility of a brand new captain from the 32nd century....

considering that when Season 3 premiers Discovery will now be in the 32nd Century... so logically Saru should be captain, with Burnham as his first officer.... but there is also the possibility of a brand new captain from the 32nd century....

I reckon it would either be Saru as captain and Burnham as No. 1, which makes sense based on how they crew has evolved over time.
But seeing as Burnham is likely lost from Discovery for at least some of the season to start with may that's not possible.

Maybe having the opposite with Burnham as captain would still work as it's hardly going to be typical Starfleet protocol from the get-go in this series.

And having said that they might throw a curve ball and have nobody take over as captain seeing as they are now lost in the far future;; perhaps they end up as some sort of community command system where no one person is in charge.

If we convert them to a pair of heelless high heels, I think Saru can fill his shoes. *LOL*

I think Saru would be the best choice, because he has an evolving command presence that is unique and refreshing, like Pike's was. He encourages, inspires, and pushes when needed only to the degree that's needed. And since he doesn't have the fear response anymore, but has all of the wisdom associated with it, he's fully capable of command.

Plus, he's technically the captain already. Saru was Pike's XO, and he was placed in command during the fight. There shouldn't be another captain. It's like if Riker suddenly got stranded in the future after Picard got captured by the Borg and say, Jellico was off ship somehow, Riker'd be the captain. He had direct command, and he also has the most seniority in his position, it appears, unless Reno or my beloved spacewife, the Barzan security officer whose name escapes me, have more time in their positions.

Burnham shouldn't be captain, in my opinion, because her character works so well as a foil to captains. She's a great XO, y'know...besides the neck pinching thing., because she always has an alternate plan and can argue her point well. I think her character loses something if she turns out to be captain, and we also lose the fresh new perspective of having a main character NOT be the Captain. I'm not going to cry if she is, of course, but I'd prefer that she be an XO.

Nhan is the Barzan security officer who stayed on board. She was a pretty cool character, i'd enjoy seeing her get more screentime.

I agree Burnham works better as an opposition to a more standard captain figure, and with Saru you get that. They function well as Captain & XO. Saru is the obvious choice but you never know with this series.

I have heard that the Non-Mirror Lorca may make a return.

But I actually would like a person of colour. Someone exotic we haven't seen before or rather haven't seen as the boss before.

God I would HATE if Burnham becomes the captain. I don't have the hate for her others seem to, and overall liked the second season of Discovery, but Discovery does put her on a pretty high pedestal, which is a continuing source of annoyance. ironically, as Discovery pulled back from focusing on her to make room for the others to actually get some character development, her sueness has increased a fair bit by making her the literal center of the events. At least in season 1, despite everyone holding her responsible for everything, it wasn't actually her fault.

Anyway I think it's be a pretty crappy kick in the balls if they make someone besides Saru the captain. He's shown a good bit of character development and leadership quality, so it sucks to see him constantly just warming the bench. I loved Pike, but Saru was ready for the captain's chair when Pike came onboard. Just need to make it official.
