Nope, I'm not going to drop over C$300 at the current exchange rate for a collection of ships. That's half a payment for my truck and I need that more than I need new traits. Perhaps if they release them individually, I may get a couple that I'm interested in.

Yup. Expensive, yes... but there are a lot of ships in there that I've wanted at tier VI for a LONG time. I'm just hoping they'll do a Zen Charge bonus event to coincide with its release. If they don't I think I'll wait a little while to see if one gets announced afterwards, there is usually a charge bonus event around Valentines day so I'm quietly hopeful.

The ships are amazing and the pack is probably worth it but this pack is 1/3 of my salary witch currently, I just can't afford it ( and by reading the comments on Reddit, I'm not the only one ).

Yeah, I get you. It is very expensive, not helped with some currency conversions. I'm fortunate with my finanaces at the moment, no kids etc so have a bit more spare cash to splash now and then!

I very much hope that Cryptic introduces these ships as stand-alones (or smaller bundles) later down the line.

I completely agree with you that the pack is worth it (in regards to what you get for what you pay), but it's outside the affordable price range for the casual gamer (which I'm one) when the user has to pay one large lump sum to get any part of it.

However, I disagree in the respect that I wouldn't blame this on capitalism. This is outright just a really bad decision on CWE/Cryptic's part. They could have made a way better decision that allowed a much larger part of their player base able to participate in purchasing ships and/or ship bundles.

I'm going to set out my thoughts a bit more on the whole affair.

Firstly, if you personally feel it's worth it to you as a player and you've got the financial situation to be able to afford it then i'm happy for you; really I am. Why should someone else's enjoyment of the game via their own means matter to me. I'm happy you are able to afford this and you feel you'll get value for money from it.

For me personally and probably a great many others the price of the whole bundle (even on sale prices) is just too steep. It's the price of a whole week's wages for many, or a month's rent/car payments for others. Or even if people have some spare cash around, blowing it in one go on a PC game is maybe just something they cannot justify.
I suspect a vast number of players would happily buy perhaps all of those ships individually over a period of months/years; even if it cost them more in the long run. It's not about the overall cost over time so much as the cost at any particular time. Me personally, i can afford a £30 ship every month probably; but i cannot afford a £300 bundle in one go. I could afford more than £300 the course of a whole year maybe; but not all in one lump sum.

To those who would say "why not save up?"; well it's not that easy for many of us. Those of us on low wages or with expenses that are more important that video games coming out on a regular basis don't always have the luxury to plan in advance for those sorts of big spends.
I could stick £30 a month in a jar sure, but then in half a year when the washer breaks down, or the roof starts to leak, or the car needs new tires I have no choice but to use my savings; no matter what they were earmarked for. Some months I have £30 spare and i'll be able to buy a ship; the next month maybe not. And maybe i could save up but i cannot plan for nor afford all that life throws at a low income family at the same time as guaranteeing expenditure on video games.

My final issue with this situation is really that IF a lot of players go for this pack/bundle then all it really does is justify to Cryptic that these sorts of prices are acceptable. They might see 1000's buying the pack and feel that gives them cause to keep going with these prices. What they don't see i the 1000's or 10,000's that did not buy it because they were priced out.
If that's the route they feel inclined to take I just worry the game is going to start getting pretty depressing; a split of the "have's" and "have not's" with players simply getting priced out by greed.
The lockbox system is the bane of the gaming industry but that does not justify or mean that the alternative needs to be so utterly ruthless as these sorts of prices. There is a middle ground and the existing C-store pricing for single ships has already shown it works rather well.

Apoligies for the long wall o' text! Just felt it had to be said and I know the community here is a bit less likely to mob against my opinion than the wolves on Reddit!

Although I very, very, very rarely play my Klingon captain, it does irk me that they do not add more to that faction than they do. I realize the majority play Feds but the KDF folks are a loyal and dedicated bunch.... they need love, too.

I voted [YES] with conditions. No one really paid attention to my post in the other thread so I will link here and repost.

I'm just going to get the standard pack; I don't need to spend an extra $100.00 USD on consumables that can only be claimed once. I explained this in my argument in the other thread. If you're trying to cut down on costs but still want the ships... just get the standard... no need to get side trash you can get later.
