Hi all, just heard about this yesterday but there's a way to play STO on non-Windows devices now. Nvidia has released their Geforce Now client which lets you stream a pretty extensive library of games to several devices including STO. I've tested it on a Windows machine and Macbook and was able to get in pretty easily. I haven't tested it yet but it apparently works on Nvidia Shield and Android devices as well although I'm curious how the controls would work out for that.

I mention this because those who are running incompatible or really old hardware could benefit from this or like me, it could be a way for you to knock out some dailies while you aren't home. I plan on using this when I'm traveling soon to keep up with everything STO.

There's a free tier that gets you an hour of uninterrupted gameplay although you may have to wait a moment for a queue (took me 30 seconds). For those who want to use this for long gaming sessions, it runs $4.99 a month. This includes a lot more games than STO so it could be a good alternative to upgrading your hardware if you're trying to play any of the new blockbuster games out.

The biggest thing going for Nvidia is, all games under your current ownership + supported by Geforce Now will be available for you to use on the service. You don't have to re-buy game titles.

Except that publishers/developers are pulling games from the service because nVidia didn't ask them if they wanted the games on that service.

Generally, if game publishers hate it, it's probably good for the consumer. The thing is, you have to own the game already, so it's not like they're losing money unless people are sharing Geforce Now credentials.

Awesome! That could probably work well with a Bluetooth controller or keyboard.

This is also true. I was lucky when beta testing GeForce Now to enjoy my current games on God-like PCs. But since then, many have pulled out.

The reason is simple, GeForce sat on this way too long. They've had this technology for 3 years+ on Alpha and Beta phases. Meanwhile other companies launched their own platforms not just as a " rent an entire PC " scheme, but for allowing publishers to earn something more as users opt for these services.

Personally as a consumer, I don't understand why I would want to re-buy my game titles I already own. Which is why its probably good to go for a service like https://shadow.tech/gben from France - where you control the whole desktop. Giving you ability to take control of the whole gaming rig, install your steam/GoG/Battlenet and access your pre-owned titles. Heck, even use the computer itself for whatever.

For Android it tells you that you need an external controller to play STO. Between that and the need to play via Steam (which I rarely use in general and not for STO), it wasn't really worth it for me to chase further on that OS, but it is cool that it is at least possible.

You can enable a controller interface on your touch screen in GeForce Now.
That being said, I wouldn't play STO PC version on a control pad anyway.

What this is great for though is collecting Doff missions and starting new ones, reputation projects, etc, while away from my home PC.

To be honest, I wouldn't be comfortable with playing an MMO on a device that I don't have direct control over or physical access to, as it adds a vulnerability to your account security.

I think if you enable all the Steam guards and definitely use TFA (although you should ALWAYS use this), you're pretty safe. You have to verify every time you login.
