As someone who lives in Lethbridge County, I am absolutely embarrassed by my city's police, the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS), or better known to its residents as the "Lethargic Police Service".
It seems that the LPS can't get away from embarrassing itself and its city by doing dumb crap.
In 2012, they announced a huge 'Pot Plant Haul' from a Lethbridge Garden that turned out to be Daisies.
Last year, an officer repeatedly ran over a deer attempting to euthanize it rather than waiting for Animal Control.
And now, if you haven't heard about it already, you soon will as the story was picked up by TMZ. Last time Lethbridge made TMZ, Marylin Manson got punched in the face at Denny's.
Lethbridge's 'finest' responded to a 911 call reporting a gun. That gun turned out to be a standard-issue Imperial E-11 Blaster Rifle being held by a 19-year-old girl in a Storm Trooper Costume. That poor girl isn't going to trust the police ever again. I know I wouldn't if I had my face slammed into the pavement hard enough to draw blood.

What gets me is that they initially tried to downplay the situation during their press conference on the incident, only to back peddle when a video of the incident surfaced on social media, NOW they're doing an investigation on whether the actions taken were justified and within reason given the situation.
Next time I see an LPS cruiser, I'm blasting The Imperial March from my car's stereo. This was embarrassing and a gross, unwarranted, excessive use of force.

They're just doing fine justice for the galaxy.
The storm troopers did execute Order 66. Some would even say its treason.

The police officer would get some bonus points if they said, "Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?"

Whelp, this has gone viral. Shatner tweeted about it, mainstream US news picked it up, Twitter is exploding right now if you search LethPolice.
I am ashamed to be a Lethbridge Area resident right now. We're the laughing stock of the country now.
I know you guys are cracking jokes, but I can't find this funny. I work security, these are the guys I have to call when stuff gets to hot for me to handle.

Usually I too give some silly comments about silly stuff like this but in this case, I saw the video of it, they're well...inappropriate. While I can understand that people in canada are currently a little on the edge, the way the police behaved is just...
Maybe there is some truth to the joke that canadians are a little behind the cultural Zeitgeist?

Ace. while I agree with the atrocious way the situation was handled, in your specific instance with working security this is what you might have wanted/needed, obviously not in your dealings with a non-threatening member of society but in regards to a too hot for you to handle situation.

To answer your question, Nut, Some of the sites I work at require me to wear Anti-Stab vests and Slash resistant kevlar gloves. I personally have had my well being threatened (A 300-pound drunk idiot threatened to break my legs, and he was serious as he had a history of violence and wound up getting picked up for outstanding warrants.)
My city also has a bad intravenous drug use problem, in fact we're the worst in the province. Getting stabbed with a used needle is a very real possibility, as some of my colleagues have already been stabbed.
The police force are a joke here in the city.
In my experience, shows favouritism. I've had to call them to evict a trespasser (My current site is hands-off, so I can't arrest people). When I last called them, I had two women who refused to leave the building despite being trespassed. When the constable showed up, he took their side and had the two women not left on their own accord, he probably wouldn't have done anything, despite the fact that they were in violation of the Trespass to Premises act. I was literally seconds away from directly telling the constable to do his job and remove these people or I was going to call his duty sergeant.
In another incident when I was moving out of my apartment, I came back from a run moving stuff only to find that he [Landlord] had changed the locks and was refusing to let me in to get my stuff because I hadn't 'cleaned it enough to his standards'. This is 100% illegal and is tantamount to theft (Trespass to chattel). I call the cops, and the Duty Sergeant for that night shows up and he takes the landlords side, making a passing remark that he's a Landlord too. I get incensed and call him on his conflict of interest and start quoting, section and subsection, of the criminal code that the landlord broke. I was immediately allowed to get my things and leave after that.
Furthermore, there are some obvious questions as to how well our current police chief can do his job. Before taking his position, he had never held that position before for a city the size of Lethbridge (100+ thousand people), and his post before that was a Chief on a small First Nations reserve police force (maybe a few hundred people, with a force of 5-10 officers), which he was forced to resign from, reasonings for which are sealed. He also announced his retirement from the LPS last year but the City Council can't seem to find anyone willing to take his position. Oh, and his wife? Senior duty sergeant for the LPS. While not proven, there's some serious rumours with some merit that she got her position through nepotism.
Hope that explains why I'm so pissed off from this situation.
