I remember Frakes saying that Burnham and Disco didn't meet up right away, so there will prolly be 3-4 episodes where we are going back and forth.

Discovery has never been about the ship or the ensemble cast. It has always been about Burnham and that was stated from the beginning.
Do I have some issues with the writing? Yes.
Do I allow it to stop me from enjoying the show as a whole? No.
I am a bit skeptical about a ship with technology 930 years out of date will thrive so far in the future. But it frees the writers from being anchored to previously established canon. I look forward to October 15th as I have become a bit attached to this crew and I think S3 is going to be the breakout season of this show.
Also Captain Saru needs to happen.

The timescale issue doesn't matter to me personally.
Trek has always had different races and groups co-mingling despite them all having vastly different technologies and evolutionary histories. There has always been more powerful groups (like the Voth) and those who are barely able to get into orbit;;; and they all get along fairly well. It's not like the galaxy is one monotonous landscape dominated by those with more powerful or advanced technology.
I don't think being 900yrs into the future will affect them too much when Federation ships have previously gone up against much more powerful challenges; Iconian viruses, alien probes of superior technology, the Borg, V'ger, the Whale Probe

Not bothering. Watched season 1, hated it. Skipped season 2 entirely, would rather watch paint dry.
Burnham is the most unlikable protagonist I've ever had the misfortune of watching.
If you like it, that's fine. I don't. New Trek is not for me.
I'm going back to my box set of TNG.

I'm being cautiously optimistic for Season 3. I expect given what we've been teased and what we've seen in the first 2 seasons, it will probably be again heavily laden with the "pew pew" stuff and probably more serialized rather than episodic storytelling that was the hallmark of TOS, TNG, and good parts of the other series. That said, given they will be in the far future there is a greater opportunity for exploration to be mixed in there than before if they choose to explore it. I'm not the greatest fan of the Burnham character either, but perhaps her character will get a bit of a personality overhaul to make her more palatable to go along with the appearance change they've been teasing. Many shows, including Trek, take one or even a few seasons to really hit their stride with writing and acting. For Discovery, I thought Season 2 was better than Season 1 personally, but it could still get better.
As far as the outdated technology piece, I think that would depend on the technology in question. Certain Discovery technologies like the Spore Drive and the Sphere data were portrayed as unique and Starfleet was shown burying the info they had on the ship, so it is entirely possible the future tech doesn't have anything comparable there which may still provide a competitive advantage. Other tech may have been evolved enough that there aren't meaningful improvements to have been made (e.g., in real history, I believe the modern medical scalpel is something that would be instantly recognizable to someone from the Roman Empire for example). As for the rest, what has been teased of the future is that the Federation has largely collapsed, and those kinds of superpower collapses usually coincide with a backslide in technological advancement as knowledge and capability is lost, so it is possible the "cutting edge" of that time period isn't as advanced as we suspect, or the chaos may allow the Disco crew opportunities to scavenge for tech upgrades, possibly even an entirely new ship since part of their purpose in going to the future was to hide the Sphere data.
At any rate, if the writing is done well, it could make for interesting storytelling. If not...there seems to be no shortage of other Trek shows in the pipeline, with "Strange New Worlds" seeming to be the most likely contender to take up the serialized exploration narratives that I think many of the critics of the more modern Trek shows have been missing.

I'm unsure any of those are going to get off the ground, or if they do, be any more than one season.
Lower Decks couldn't even secure an international distributor. Amazon and Netflix both wanted nothing to do with it.

Strange New Worlds was acknowledged as having been greenlit based on what the fans said they wanted, so I reckon it's got the strongest hand of any of the upcoming or current projects and will likely have a more optimistic tone and sense of adventure, getting back to the TOS roots. There's been radio silence on the Section 31 series since February and while the mess we find ourselves in probably has everything to do with that, there's some speculation that the project has been scrapped.

Amazon and Netflix didn't want to shoulder the development and production costs with their distribution deals as happened with DSC. Who knows, perhaps with CBS having to actually invest money into their productions, they may be forced to do quality checks on their products to ensure a decent return on them.

I hope so. I really do.
I know I poop on modern Trek a lot and have probably made a few enemies here because of it, but I really do want Trek to be good. Seeing it go down in flames is the absolute last thing I want.
However I really don't think it'll go anywhere but the gutter as long as Alex Kurtzman is in charge. He's the poster boy for failing upwards in Hollywood, mostly everything he's touched has bombed. Remember The Mummy with Tom Cruise? He was given the Universal Monsters Universe to develop and absolutely bombed it. His other projects.. well just look at his IMDB.. too many bombs to mention. His writing is childish at best and full of plot black holes that go nowhere. Or episodes full of "emotion" for the sake of it and no actual plot. Things happening for no logical reason. His projects make my IQ slide downhill just from watching them.
It's safe to say I truly despise the man.

Speaking of Kurtzman, he did an interview about the recent Trek Emmy nominations and dropped hints that included mentions of progress on all the current shows. It has created some buzz in that it was the first acknowledgement of the Section 31 show still in progress plus apparently peep for Disco season 4 is already underway, plus reconfirming Picard season 2 and the previously confirmed Stange New Worlds and Prodigy shows are moving forward.

Thank you! I wish more people thought of it this way. You can watch something, like parts of it and still have constructive criticism. Every TV show has had bad episodes, and "old" Star Trek is no exception. And yes, the new Trek has some really bad ones that made me cringe (like the Picard episode where they play awfully acted "characters" to get close to the evil woman). But overall, the big picture isn't too bad.

There's a theory over at Trekmovie.com that "The Burn" is related to the Omega Particle.
