Nah, to circumvent geo blocks you need a decent VPN, which are usually subscription-based. I have a subscription to a VPN as well and use it 50% for security reasons, 40% for country restrictions and 10% to change my routing in case some MMO has high pings again

It wasn't fine ever, whenever there have been geo-restrictions, there have been people to work round them. I know for DVDs, all you need is a region free DVD player, which I got to play some DVDs that weren't available in the UK when I was younger, the same was possibly true for VHS as well.

I don't believe VHS were geolocked (can't imagine how they did it) but you're right it's never been acceptable, it's just back then we had no choice but to really accept what we were given

I really hacks me off that so many shows these days are getting locked behind multiple subscription models or not getting releases globally at anything like the same timeframes.

Discovery and Picard are (whether you like it or not) locked behind a paywall which severely limits how many people can watch them. I'm fairly confident that they'd attract many more viewers if they were more accessible.

Game of Thrones was just as bad; locked behind subs; limiting people's ability to get in on the show.

Hell, we've not even got any way to watch Lower Decks in the rest of the world yet and worse than that; the most recent Short Treks STILL haven't been released over here in Europe.

Most shows being digital now means there's no excuses for not having things available more widely.

At that time the issue was with the PAL, SECAM and NTSC video formats. You had to have the appropriate player to play them. They weren't interchangeable.

Yes, it does. As Sunfire said, a VPN service that can hide / change your Geo-location will suffice.
