What kind of offer is this? Even if you want to speed up leveling up your reps, it won't help you level up ALL reps faster unless you buyout ALL 13 of them. If you buyout 12 of the 13 reps, it'll still take over 40 days to level up that last rep to T6. The key to leveling up your reps fast normally is to work on ALL your reps at the same time.

For this to be a reasonable offer, it needs to be AT LEAST account unlock.

While it is a cash grab, I hardly think it is a sign the whole game is dying. Cryptic is a business, so they need to monetize where they can, and it isn't like they spam us with ads or product placement throughout the game. In this case, nobody is forcing anyone to buy and the free path that has always been there is still there. I think they are exploring new options to sell stuff, but aside from the questionable price points nothing that has been offered is really a "pay to win" change to the game. If people are paying, then Cryptic will keep doing what they are doing. If it stops making money, then Cryptic will stop offering these kinds of things or change prices.

Cryptic may not have turned out much "new" content beyond a few new TFOs and the new House Divided episodes, but the refresh on the Qo'nos and the KDF intro arcs strike me as more a rebuild than simple lighting and texture tweaks, so that has got to put a serious dent in the devs bandwidth. Add in the challenges of COVID-19 on work arrangements, and the dev output this year makes a bit more sense. Will the game go on forever? Probably not, but with all these Trek shows in flight and in the pipeline it seems like a dumb time to kill the game off. Even with all its problems it is still one of the best Trek games that has been put out there and still has a good sized player base.

My hope is that when Cryptic realizes that no one really wants to pay for reps that aren't account unlock and thus isn't generating as much revenue as expected, they'll change the offer to be account unlock.

I think it's pretty dumb to sell something, at such a price, that is only a character unlock. Like, maybe $5 per rep, account only unlock? More like a mobile game pay-to-sklp thing, but even then, it's silly because STO is supposed to be an MMO, not RAID Shadow Legends. At the rate they are going, it may as well impliment some things like RAID Shadow Legends, something like auto battle, buy a pack that flies your ship for you, no hate to those who enjoy RAID (use offer code ThreeIsSmart307 for 420 gems in game), enjoy games how you want, to me, this is silly.

It is pay-to-win on the grounds that it gets you endgame traits, and unlock the ability to get endgame gear in exchange for money. You could grind out the content for free, so you could call it pay-to-skip, so the content isn't locked behind money, unless you are a fresh player, who doesn't want to spend time, then it is pay-to-win.

I've never liked the repuation system from the get go, and the more they add, the worse it gets. To me, there isn't the content to keep me wanting to play, the only content seems to be grinds via the events, reputation, fleet holdings, and getting big deeps. Gone are the things that were fun, like PvP, the foundry, the ability to use T1 ships for STFs (TFOs), and a lot of the other old, cut content.

Let them fly the ship for me? Uh...I've seen the AI at work in this game. I'd be better off just parking the ship for free. Probably have higher DPS that way too.

Here's what I'm seeing.

Cryptic says, "Welcome new player. We'll make it easy for you to level up to 65. You don't even have to play the boring story arcs once you've cleared the tutorial.
You can pay to up your reps.
You can pay to get the Event gear.
You can pay to get the good gear directly.
You can pay a lot to buy gamble boxes and maybe get even better gear.
Hell, if you have enough money, you can pay to get almost anything you want.
Then you'll get bored and leave. But that's okay because we already have your money. Tell your friends!"

I bought a Lifetime Membership when I was able, to give back something for their work. I got stuff, sure. But if I was thinking about buying it again today, I don't think I would do it.

Although my final verdict is this is another Andre Emerson idea meant to extract money from the playerbase.

This is Perfect World Entertainment's doing, not Cryptic or its EP. This is the Parent Company saying "Make us more money, don't care how".

I doubt the Devs like this, but they they still want to be employed.

its not even for all the reps, its just one rep, and its not even account wide, that's 39000 zen to unlock all the reps, just to tier 5...for 1 toon.... F That

Still....more and more it feels like all that is added to the game anymore is the occasional mission or two...constant back to back to back to back events aimed at getting people to pay money so they don't have to grind the same boring stuff over and over again.

We're seeing less c-store ships and more gamble box ships
No new lobi ship in 2 years
No new rep or fleet holding in a long time
No new story based sets or sets in general except for a few lob store ones

I'll be blunt I find the idea of a buyout for rep's rather insulting it's also not worth 350$+ just to unlock All T5 rep's just on one toon.
