Rumours are that the film is back on and will incorporate the originally planned time travel aspect to see the return of Chris Hemsworth as George Kirk and they may be considering getting William Shatner back to fill the legacy role carried by Nimoy in the previous films.

I did really enjoy the cast for those films so I'd be happy for them to get another go at it.

Personally time travel stuff is a bit boring these days and it's going to get the film compared to ST:IV with it being the 4th film and having a similar plot potentially.
Also, it doesn't need Shatner, or any other "legacy actors". Let the new cast do their thing without having old show/film actors stealing the limelight or be shoehorned in just to market the film.

Shatner hasn't sat in the big chair since Generations, do you really think after like 25 years he'll come back as the legendary Captain we all know and grew up with?

Maybe they're bringing back Shatner's Kirk as a horrible warning to Kelvin Kirk, "Look how you'll end up if you don't fix the damn timeline."

Hm, I always thought that the Kelvin Timeline was still 'on'. I thought it just got delayed due to the pandemic and all. Either way I would like to see more Trek films and the Kelvin Timeline is probably the best chance for that. The one thing I think they need to do with the KT is to start telling their own original stories there like they did with Beyond.

I do doubt that Shatner would return however (not to say I wouldn't squeal like a 13 year old fan girl if he did). It seems like they have a much better chance of getting any other actor to reprise their legacy role.

Not gonna lie, part of my reasoning for wanting the KT to come back is I may have a little (read: massive) man crush on Chris Pine but can you really blame me for that?

For Shatner to return the writers would have to undo something that Shatner has only done in his Shatnerverse Books.

Kirk died on Veridian III. So the character has been dead for 27 years and the actor himself has aged since then. Don't get me wrong, for a man who's pushing 90 years old, William Shatner is looking pretty good. I could only hope if I live that long I have half of his energy.

You can't really utilize the solution Shatner used in his books because after 27 years there wouldn't be much of a body to reanimate. So that's out and if you're going to say that this happened before the ill fated encounter with Soran. There's going to be some massive de-aging involved. We all know that has mixed results.

I thought ST: Beyond was a good step in the right direction. It let that universe's characters stand on their own. With a nod to the passing of Leonard Nimoy done very tastefully and respectfully. So it is my hope that Paramount will let the prime Captain James T. Kirk rest and let the Kelvin James T. Kirk continue to blaze his own trail.

I'd just sign up for a month, watch it and maybe a few other things to get my money's worth, then unsubscribe.

Or, if there's a free trial, I'll just use that and then cancel.

Hello, as im in the UK I don't think we will get Paramount + but first I got Netflix for Discovery and Amazon for Picard and as still on them both found lots more cool shows. Staying with both for Discovery, TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9 & VOY on Netflix and now along with Picard, Lower Decks is on Amazon.
So all is cool here, just have to wait and see but even if it's one last final Voyage of the Enterprise A, with a good ending IDK maybe be more?

If they really want to have K.Kirk meet P.Kirk, I really do think they just use the nexus. As you never really leave the nexus, a part of you is always there. Could do up a story of how someone important from Prime be stuck in Kelvin, have Kelvin Enterprise figure out the only way to send them back safely is the nexus. You have the two Kirks meet up in the nexus, talk about life and have P.Kirk tell K.Kirk to be a better Kirk than him. Also to never leave the chair of the Enterprise.

The person from Prime in question needs to be from farther in the timeline of Prime, so as to be a huge resource for all walks of Kelvin to hunt him down. So instead of one focused bad guy, you can have the Romulans and Klingons want him to get the advantage over the Federation. This way, you could also introduce some newer villains that perhaps stick around or are set up as the antagonists for the next films.

Could even have the Prime person take a look at the baddies history in the Prime and realize that this universe has a very different course of events and that while we call it the Kelvin universe, it obviously deviated way earlier than that. As neither Romulan or Klingon were important in the Prime universe.
