Should we have a NPC captain moving forward? Like, a character that can be mainly played by the RP CO/XO or designated simm officer, and used by others in a pinch for simple interactions? Kind of like how we did with the XO after the player had to leave. It would help avoid captain turnover and keep some consistency in the RP.

I'm around and about. May/June/July are crazy times at work due to Fiscal year ends June 30 and starts July 1. That means all contracts/bids/etc for services/software to be used have to be finalized completely by June 30 for Day 1 execution on July 1. It's how public sector and civic funded (local taxes) money works due to laws I guess.

Anyhow, I'll be more available by later July and August.

I'm also ready willing able and available (long term) to pick up any slack there may develop from not having an XO. With or without the functional designation, permanently or on an interim basis. If you're taking applications though, tell me where and how to submit them and I'll do that right away.

But I can imagine that the CO job and focussing on firing up the RP relegate the scouting and recruiting for the XO position less of a priority for the moment. Any work-intensive chores or tedious jobs that need doing, let me know.

Of course, Schrit and Danre van Hulftoids are also eagerly awaiting the Ares's future and, due to.... circumstances I have 8 to 10 hours a day for the next 6 months at least with nothing to do, so if there is a need for a position to be filled it's no problem for me to take on another character. Dante's purpose was to give me the option of writing something when pacing is slow or waiting for JP's anyway so it'd be only two characters I'd be running. No sweat for the foreseeable future.

In short: Command me and I shall comply!

That's pretty much the idea I had when I created Captain Jones. I deliberately didn't go with a lot of background for her to give scope to RP with others down the line. There's already a hook for RP with Mariella and Silynn's character and other's can be created as time goes by.

Sounds like a good idea to me.
I suggest though we not call it an NPC but call it the CO's character, regardless of who the CO is, just to clarify the character's unique purpose?

And to be clear, my post was intending that the CO character be played by you or your designee, but just with the idea that the character be kept open, with the intention that other roleplayers in the future might step in and take over, and that the character's time doesnt end with the creator. Like WelshAvenger stated, he left some stuff open for future RPers.

As far as the Mariella character itself, we could go with that one, or another character created in the same manner. Maybe even a character like a Chameloid or other shape shifting race, so the character would be more like the Doctor on Doctor Who. Sky's the limit.

Away teams needed a hotshot pilot and Blaster hadn't been around in ages so Schrit got drafted with Deuzige's agreement IIRC.

Yes correct, I'm not complaining, don't get me wrong! I said it was a childish tantrum, and the winky face was the biggest one i could think of.

Guess the humor didn't translate from my brain to the keyboard. I was just trying to humorously convey my eagerness to get Schrit into an actual cockpit and a space fight or something, when this mission's dirt side part was done.

I at least demonstrated my awesome power to fail at something i intended to achieve! (Now finding something positive in every negative.)
