I had one of the glue together Enterprise D models back in the day too, though I forget which company it was from. I remember spending a not inconsiderable amount of time painting each window individually (which where cast as sunken grooves) using a toothpick to properly apply the paint into the gap.

I kept it for years but it got destroyed. The saucer on it was detachable and just clipped on, but someone knocked it off, thought they'd broken it and glued it back on but they used far too much of the polystyrene cement and it melted it.
