I just received a promotion for this one on steam.

I have a decent bit of experience from playing it on the Xbox (I do own the PC version, but never got too far there).

It's one of those games where you really need to make your own story/gameplay as there's no real "story" to the game besides the Galnet stuff/community goals and events in-game.

There are three primary ways to play, Combat, Trading and Exploration. Combat and Trading can filter into a few different subcategories

I've played a bit. Pretty sure the best ship I have right now is a Python, so I never got too too far.

I definitely recommend the combat, always felt most fun. You can even get started at low intensity CZs in something like a Cobra and it actually does pretty good! (don't tell anyone, but I've always fought for the Empire instead of the Federation in ED )

Another thing that was actually very good fun was asteroid core mining, especially if you just wanna relax. I played it when the scanner was broken, so I got tired of it fairly quickly but I imagine they've fixed it by now.

I haven't actually played the game in a good while, might have to pick it up again now you've mentioned it.

I now see that I have the option to choose between elite dangerous and elite dangerous horizons. What is the difference?

ED is the base game, Horizons is the first expansion (and now basically the standard to play, as it includes features like engineering).

You'll want to play Horizons.

Just strange that when horizon is the base game, you still have the chance to choose ED itself
I first started with tutorial just to familiar myself with all of the options the game has to offer.

Elite Dangerous is the actual base game, I just say Horizons is the base game now as it's been about for long enough that you rarely see people playing without it because of the features it does add like Engineering (which makes all your stuff waaaaay better)

Odyssey is the latest expansion to come out which introduces Ground Combat and walking around stations and such, but there's still so many bugs that most people I know still play with Horizons unless they have to do something Odyssey Specific

Okay, so Odyssey does have an additional cost, however you can land on some planets if you have Horizons. It just means you can't go out on foot or land on other types of planets (ones with an atmosphere I believe)

Correct, Odyssey add on foot combat (as in your actual character). With Horizons, you can still land on planets, but you'll take your SRV out to explore instead

Ok, just completed first tutorial, will have to do some studies before I understand all of the functions.
How do I enter the UFP version of the clan? I saw something about contacting Mentioned User Mack (now I know why I said mack when replying earlier on another thread instead of Novalance, I was thinking about this game and who to contact when I was ready to go )

If you go to the right panel, on the first tab should have "Squadron" somewhere, select that and search for our clan and apply!, then someone will accept you!
