I've interpreted that line as that she asked him to finally set a date and follow through with the promise, which he clearly has some issues with.


Hell, we've seen a grand total of two Vulcans we know for sure were married in some form aside from Spock, that being his dad and another Tuvok. For all we know, that question could be part of the formal ritual.

EDIT: What I mean is that we know next to nothing about their courting rituals before tying the knot, so there is nothing to retcon in the first place. With all due respect.

That said, I could see what T'Pring did in the episode... pilot?.. in that scene as her formalizing the arrangement, since as she implied that she felt Spock clearly wasn't going to.

I could well and truly see the Vulcans having a hedge in those arrange marriages if one or ideally both parties see going through with it as illogical for whatever reason. I see it comparative to long-term engaged couples finally settling on a date.

Here was my Facebook post on the first episode. This is more Star Trek than anything made since The Original Series.

I have felt for some time now that those of us who grew up with TOS had been left out by all of the series that followed and each new series took us farther and farther from the feel and direction Gene Roddenberry created. I watched most of TNG, gave up on DS9 (but from multitudes of comments here feel I may need to revisit it at some point), watched Voyager, and actually liked Enterprise to a degree because it was the closest to TOS of what had been made to that point.

I gave up on Discovery after season one and have absolutely no intention of ever watching another episode. Picard seems hit and miss to me.

Basically, none of them resonated Star Trek to me as much as TOS and now SNW.

Let me make one thing perfectly clear. Those are my opinions. Period. Those who have differing opinions on any or all of the above are welcome to do so. In fact, I think it's unlikely there would be a SNW without the above-named series which were geared toward a completely different audience.

But, Strange New Worlds... well, Star Trek has come home to those who embraced the franchise from the beginning. Welcome back. We've truly missed you.

Not only that, it has rekindled my interest in STO. I used to be around daily but it's been quite a while since I've played on a consistent basis. Seeing what I believe to be many STO-inspired things in SNW is very kewl and makes me want to once again become a more active member.

This is better Quality than the shlock that has come out of Dis-Card over the last few years

1.) The changes of Amok Time in regards to Spock and T'pring engaging.

2.) All genetic modifications have been prohibited since before the 22nd Century even to cure critical illnesses so the genetic modifications to disguise the Away Team are not allowed by Federation law.

3.) The idea that the people of Kiley 279 could re-engineer Warp Technology from looking at a battle that took place a lightyear away is like me looking at a F-18 Super Hornet in flight and making a working copy of its engine.

4.) The ship is way too enhanced to what they should be able to do compared to the TOS Enterprise.

5.) The Gorn should be unknown until Arena

I have watched this expecting nothing on one hand I got what I expected on the other it was better than the rest of Nu-Trek.

Honestly, you can interpret the dialogue of Amok Time either way.

Where does it say in canon that even genetic treatments for congenital diseases are illegal? Legit, I can't recall off-hand where it says that. Also, those changes aren't permanent, nor are they meant to enhance them in any meaningful way. I can see an exception being made until such time that surgical technology allows for what we saw in TNG/DS9 in that area.

The time scale is sketch, granted, but we did work out, for example how Stars work by looking at them with telescope and spectrometers.

Not quite. In Arena, Spock specifically refers to 'legends'/unconfirmed reports and sensor ghosts in that area. The Federation clearly didn't probe very deeply into that area by Arena either, so for all we know they simply didn't connect what Spock referred to in Arena to the semi-confirmed reports of the Gorn.

I liked the ep ,there are a few things that to me are not trek like most of the crew is Female I am ok with that when the original trek came out there were only few controversial things and that Bigest was one female on bridge and to make things even moer controverial ( back in the 1960s) was she was Black. Another was the scenes with Spock and his wife being so emotional but again I am ok with that I will let that go then the Andorian I am wonderting how they are going to explain an Andorian in the Federation plus the talk about the Gorn which I am very sure that JT Kirk was the first human to be in contact with the Gorn but again I can let all that go , TImes now are allot more different and freer then back in the 1960s original Trek.
I used to watch the original Trek as a child when it was brand ne won the only channel our old Blcak and white TV could sometimes get back int he 1960s mind you I was only maybe 5-6years old and have seen every ep probably hundreds if not 1000s of times over the decades including the very first ep which if Iremember correctly actually didnt com,e ouit until years later hehe

I think the question about genetics is answred in the TOS with Khan in the original trek they find Khan ( Space seed Ithinmk was the name of the ep) and I may be worng here but the ysay something about the genetics stopped in the 1990s and Khan was already in space frozen for war

I see all points here though I am not a Sheldon about it, and accept the odd thing here and there. I love all trek even new trek always have and probably always will, I remember back in the day TNG, DS9 and Voyager all got a lot of stick for not being TOS Trek. I am that bad my kids told me the other day it has become my goto show to watch I had to re-explain to them that I have been and always will be a SciFi nerd from my earliest days I watched it all Lost in Space, Land of the Giants, Time tunnel, Trek and much more. Sci-fi and Fantasy have always been my main go-to.

A little more work on continuity would be good and with so many new Trek at once should have been better than it has it annoys me but won't stop me from watching it.

I liked SNW I think as I said earlier it was a powerful show that at a time when we are watching the goings-on between Russia and Ukraine they could not have picked a better episode to highlight what a nuclear situation would look like will it won't change things in any way but still, it might inspire younger minds as old trek did with many before it.

I look forward to what is to come the enjoyment of each week being its own episode and not having to wait a week for a conclusion.
