So I'm told that this ship is great for surgical strike builds, so can anyone point me at a good one to use as a starting base?

The most important part is that you have the Vanguard Specialists Trait, I will post pictures soon.

The Tac Consoles are 4*Vulnerability Exploiter Mk XV, the chahged Traits are Vanguard Specialists and Promise of Ferocity.

Augmented Dictator Games posted a sample build video of a SS3 Legendary D7 last month if you want to check out a video example and discussion of "why". In general, you mainly just need a ship with a Commander Intel seat in order to slot Surgical Strikes 3 (which the Leg D7 has), and from there it is mostly slotting typical DEW stuff. You'll ideally want the Legendary Jem'Hadar Vanguard Pilot Attack Ship for the "Vanguard Specialists" trait to give you up to 100% uptime on your Surgical Strikes. Otherwise, it is pretty much just building a Beam Overload build then shuffling around BOFF powers to slot SS3 instead of BO3 (and switching from Superweapon Ingenuity to Vanguard Specialists in your space traits if you have them).

Thanks for the help thus far, both of ya. I'm very likely going to go beam weapons, but that's more a matter of personal preference.

With Surgical Strikes you can mix beams and cannons. These will also benefit from the Mixed Armament Synergy on the D7.

Those are Dual Heavy Cannons, you can use Dual Beam Banks and they are very important since they do significantly more DPS than Single Beam Arrays.

So I've had a bit of a think onm this, and when I'm not exactly half falling asleep, I'm going to get started on a pure beam build. It just suits me better.

The question is now, what beams to go for. Since I usually do canon-compliance over metas, I'm most tempted by the 23rd Century Advanced Fleet Disruptors from K13, but I'm willing to at least entertain any and all suggestions.

I need to look at if I have them, but that's certainly a possibility. I was going to look at getting the Cardie bundle anyway, in case that I don't. What about the bio-molecular ones from the Undine Rep?

EDIT: So turns out, I don't have SWDs, as the only Cardie ship is one I plucked out of a lockbox many years ago... Sigh.

Okay, so as of right now the plan is to get crafted Dual Beams from my designated crafting toon (aka my main), together with the a build heavily based on what @Jestersmith so graciously linked (thanks, my friend, for that, btw) with looking at eventually replacing them with either biomolecular Disruptors from the 8472 Rep or SDWs once I've saved up enough Zen for the Cardassian pack as is currently in the store. I'm not spending another triple digit sum on this game. Never.

One of the forward-facing dual beams will be, as he has, the dual wide-angle one from the Disco Rep as well.

I might drop by to the build discussion tonight to bend y'all's ears on that some more if you don't mind.

Why do you want to go with crafted wepaons, there is no longer any mod worth it.

Mostly because I have a metric F-word ton of crafting materials on my main toon, and crafting those things thusly is cheaper than grabbing some ones off the exchange, and it gives her crafting XP. It's all temporary until I have the SDWs one way or another.
