The other challenge is that since it can kitbash with other Galaxy designs, it means you can create a design that has no deflector art at all, so they probably figured it wasn't worth the headaches of fixing it since that scenario presumably also exists.

Ten Forward Weekly 31/01/23
- Cryptic has to test every ship they make to make sure it fits inside the Breach. Kael remembers when the ENT-J came out and QA had to do a run of the breach with 5 ENT-Js
- Cryptic is aware of the issues with fleet donations, and theres already some fixes made that will come out later this week
- Cryptic can use ships from past Trek games if they remake the model themselves
- Cryptic has to be careful about how many ships/items one player can have. A few years ago someone on Champions found a bug that let them have way more characters then they should, and they had loaded up these characters with lots of items, which was causing the game to run slow/crash for everyone
- J'Ula and the Emperor were allowed to go free because the Cryptic writing team believes Star Trek is not a story about punishment, its a story about redemption. In J'ula's case, nothing she did was technically against the code of the Klingon Empire. So her being rewarded by the Empire makes sense. And Wesley is too powerful to throw in a prison, so the team had him go on a spiritual journey to rediscover himself, which is a more fitting end to the character.
- Klingon recruit re-run begins next month
- Kael will bring up alien gen for TOS to the team again. States last time he asked he was told the TOS start is supposed to be TOS, not TAS, SNW, etc. based, so thats why the race selection is what it is
- Kael believes the 2023 event campaign will begin next month
- DSC Andorians are still being worked on here and there when the team has time
- Cryptic was able to revamp the old Klingon faction missions, while also putting out the new Year of Klingon missions, at the same time because all the stuff developed for the YoK could be easily used in the Klingon faction mission revamps, and the other changes were so small it was easy for a dev to do them at the same tie. The removed Klingon War missions need a lot more work because they're older, and don't have as many assets that can be easily replaced/reused from the newer content. Kael believes that the task of remastering them has become more daunting in the team's mind due to what it could involve. Says he will talk to Jarrod again about it, see if they can get someone to really push for it. Kael believes they should spend a season on remastering them, but he knows Al Rivera and Paul already have the next like 2 years worth of updates planned out for the next arc that we've gotten a tease for(referring to the cutscene at the end of the Terran arc), so Kael doesn't know where they would fit a remaster in. Would likely have to push something else back to fit it in, which hes all for, but it depends
- No console specific updates/overhauls planned. Kael knows Travis is working on making the fleet donation system on console better
- Cryptic was talking about new lifetime sub ships the other day. Not guaranteed to happen.
- When asked about better controller support on Steam Deck, Kael says Cryptic isn't officialy supporting any of their products on Steam Deck, though hopefully they can get something there.
- There have been conversations about moving stuff from the Infinity Box into the Phoenix Boxes. Don't know if/when that is going to happen.
- There has been talk about adding Advanced/Elite versions of the newer TFOs. Kael needs to talk to the designers about that again. Most of the time the advanced/Elite versions already exist, but just haven't been implemented for whatever reason.
- There has been talk about skill misfire issues, however when people report it theres little details about what skills are misfiring. Kael asks for people to list the skills that are misfiring in the chat. Kael mentions it seems like a lag issue, which are really hard to find/diagnose.
- Cryptic has been talking about ways to fix the Voth Dino universal endeavor. No idea when a fix will be made, but it has been mentioned internally.
- Cryptic is going to talk about something on next week's stream that will hopefully make shields more effective.
- Weapon visual slots are pretty much a pipe dream. Due to the way the game was originally coded its hard. They may be able to do something about it someday.
- When asked about console captains getting the ability to switch between RPG and shooter mode Kael says that sounds like a larger task, so maybe.
- No talks about doing a DSC recruitment event. Kael isn't sure about how many more recruitment events they made add.
- Cryptic has talked about Xbox/PS cross play. but due to that not being allowed when STO was first ported to consoles, the servers were set up in a way that makes that really hard.
- If Cryptic ever ends up doing playable fighter squads they would be the equivalent of a T6 ship since there would be no point otherwise.
- Kael will ask about BOFFs applying traits they shouldn't(according to someone in chat)
- Without going into too much detail on how the system works, Kael mentions STO does have a pitty system in place. It isn't "after X pulls you are guaranteed the max prize" but your odds do increase.
- The reason why there aren't a lot of Vulcan ships in STO is because there aren't that many Vulcan ships in canon(someone asked about why STO has so few Vulcan ships.
- Unless they have a use for it in a mission its unlikely we will get the Sagan bridge in STO
- Kael doesn't know when a PS5 or XboxS/X update will happen, but it is something people are working on
- Next story arc will be about the same length as the Terran Gambit arc is, so about 2 years.
- Kael will ask about the Terran whip being made playable
- Updating the older uniforms has been talked about, its just a matter of finding places for it on the schedule.
- Kael will follow up with the team on any plans to reduce visual spam
- There is no "hard no" on playable Borg cubes/Spheres, the issue is solving the tech problems with flying Borg cubes/Spheres
- Will pass on the "Herald Sphere" bug where Command Ships don't/stop spawning early in the TFO.

Lol....do these guys even Star Trek?The reason why there aren't a lot of Vulcan ships in STO is because there aren't that many Vulcan ships in canon(someone asked about why STO has so few Vulcan ships
There's a tonne of canon Vulcan ships even going by ENT/DSC era on screen alone. Memory Alpha lists at least 16 types, that's more than most other races that have stacks of ships in the game (e.g. Terrans, Hur'q, Voth, Gorn, Nausicans ??????).
Just the usual nonsense excuses from them.

This argument might be a bit more convincing if we didn't have like 7 flyable T6 versions of the Miranda, 5 versions of the Galaxy plus another 3 Gal-X, 5 sovvies, 5 oddys, 4 defiants, etc. We all like Star Trek, and a big part of that is obviously Starfleet, but another cornerstone is the experience of different cultures and beliefs coming together to work in harmony to make something bigger than any can accomplish alone. While we are getting a lot of new stuff related to the new shows (unfortunately all too often locked behind gamble boxes or pricey bundles), I always enjoyed seeing Cryptic go further afield to create some original ideas.
I can remember flying the T5 Risian Cruiser back in the day until I started picking up T6 ships, and then it was stuff like the Phantom, the Eternal, the original Romulan and Klingon designs, and other original stuff that let me feel like I was creating my own story instead of an imitation of one of the TV show captains. I still enjoy dusting those kinds of ships every now and then, but they've aged in terms of game mechanics and newer original ideas usually aren't "full-spec" ships anymore, so they rarely carry the same appeal, forcing you to choose somewhere between "good space barbie" and "good meta", with the 2 rarely overlapping anymore.
I don't hate TV show ships by any means and do fly them, but I always feel like it is because I don't really have a choice, and I don't play KDF or Jemmy stuff very much anymore because there just aren't many options to choose from that aren't dated designs at this point, so it is like those factions are in a vicious death spiral. They don't get the cool new toys, so people play them less, which in turn means they are less likely to get future new cool toys.

Just to touch on something from a previous Ten Forward, BOFFs can now wear the medical coats from the new episode, it's under the drop down menu you'd use to select the various armour sets. Some restrictions still seem to apply however, as my Romulan boff can only wear the Terran version of it.
Also the fleet coffer thing still appears busted despite supposedly being fixed.

The EMH can wear it, but according to Reddit, it removes his head so you're forced to use a wrap/helmet to get around it.
