Wow man, thread necro but check this out.
After a few failed attempts to finish my first N scale layout and the dismantling of the OO scale layout I finally have updates!
The end to end N Scale I am currently taking a break from and This year I have started fresh with a simple 4 foot by 2 foot Round and round loop with a small amount of sidings.

my poor wife had to give up some space in the living room for a week while I started this. but I got it all wired up as seen below, ignore the black tape it is temporary until I can secure the wiring better.

After this It has found a spot in the train room and I have finally started scenic work. Firstly the Ballasting.

Finally now that the ballast is dry, I have started on the Support for the hillside and the tunnel portals.

Much more to come but probably only every few weeks as I only get a day at most a week to work on it!

What train is on the track?
The color scheme looks like TEE cars but the engine behind the plastic bag doesn’t seem fitting.

aha that engine is a Class 66 EWS Livery Diesel, it was the only one i had to hand to run a big rake of coaches, was testing to make sure the trackwork was working fine before ballasting and afterwards

tiny update, now the ballasting is all done and dry, I started work on the tunnel and hillside.

plasterclothed the whole thing then painted it up

Nice ballasting. Suggestion: If you intend to paint the track, I find it easier to do it before ballasting. In some cases I have spray-painted flex track in bulk before laying it, especially if it was not to be used on curves. Spray paint on set-track gave me no problems. Turnouts I paint by hand or not at all.

I thought about it but this layout probably won't get the track weathered, its something I will definitely do next time though! this weekend its all about the scenics.

Still not too happy with some of the white from the foam and the plastercloth showing through, have tried to hide it with more brown scatter and dabs of paint, you'll find it very difficult with the naked eye but the camera sees it pretty well. on the 2nd picture most of the white you can see is the PVA glue still drying!

I remember many years ago being told by a guy at a train show with a scenic-heavy layout that he used an airbrush to touch-up spots that were missed or were damaged. He also used spray paint to restore the foliage colors that faded with time.

I have never been good with an airbrush.

did ever thought about using Iceland moss (= bushes) to cover up the brown spots?
