Petty officers log June 12th. New front tires ordered and will arrive on the 14th. That's the easy part. The hard part is getting the bolts out of a wheel that havn't been removed in 75 years. I hope they built them to last. if i break one, well I don't want to even think about how to repair it. Would be a nightmare to drill out and re-tap and die.

One thing is for sure. The guy who i hired to paint it is in for a shock when it actually arrives at this shop. He doesn't think I will get it down there.

Petty officers log June 13. New tires to arrive tomorrow, but I ran into a large problem. Apparently you have to remove the center hub nut to remove the wheels. Been to 3 different tool places and no one has a tool to fit the monster bolt. Hoping Menard or home depot might have a solution but being they are home improvement stores on top of tool places, it's a crap shoot.

Petty officers log supplemental. Got the wheels off without removing the hub nuts. Apparently they've been on so long that brute force and a 6 foot 2x6 was needed to break them off. They must weight over 100 lbs (45 kilos) each. Attachment 18219

Petty officers log June 15th.

Dropped the wheels and tires off to be installed but ran into a new problem. My personal convenience that I use for hauling dirty and heavy objects has stopped running. Given its 20 years old I suspect the starter has failed do to the heat. The relays and solenoid click when power is applied. Just another item to stack on the pile.

In other news, my wife got a job in Kona HI. She's going to be moving there soon and my and my old toys will follow in short order.

And the bad news just keeps on coming. So the inside kf the weeks that hasn't seen the light if day in 75 years is severely corroded. Tire shop said it would be pointless to out the inner tubes in as they would burst immediately. So going to take a wire wheel, a drill, some safety goggles, and some music, and clean them up, then primer the insides to protect from future rust. Hopefully ill have these back to the shop to.orrow for installation. Tried to upload pictures, but I'm getting an error message about exceeding my quota. I didnt know such a thing existed.

Petty officers Log June 26th.
Been too long since i updated. Tractor is done and mobile. new front tires and tubes, new bolts where i could replace the old rusted ones. It drives and sounds good and even practicing with it. Has a weird shift pattern compared to normal manual transmissions where reverse is all the way to the left, and the the 2 forward gears are top and bottom right.

also in 1 week, my wife is relocating to Kona HI. She's starting a new job there and I will be following with our son soon after that. Going to ship her the stuff we need and once it's in a container or on its way via fedex, i'll be able to follow along. Going to be really odd being so far off of everyone else's time zones.

Petty officers log June 28th.

Wife leaves in 6 days. Been elbow deep in old storage throwing out mouse eaten clothing and old papers that I still vant fathom why she kept in the first place. Upside, I think with all the stuff I convinced her to throw out or donate means I will only need 1 small shipping container to ship to Kona.

Going to be odd waking up and having no clutter, and laying on the beach during Christmas, but if it means taking less pain medication, I'll just have to suffer through it.

Wife getting on plane in a few hours. Up before the sun to make sure she gets there on time. She promises to send video of fireworks from Kona. With luck i'll be there in less than 2 months myself. Thankfully I have WAY less things than she does to pack up.

Petty officers log June 15.

Things moving along. Selling off everything i don't want/has no personal value. Bought my tickets for my son and myself to move to Hawaii, that leaves on Aug 19th. Been busy prepping everything to move with me like my tractor, that needs a new inner tube already. Don't know how it went flat but needs fixed before I leave. 5 weeks from today, a new life starts. Just hope I don't turn into Hei Hei.

Petty officers log, August 20th 2023

Arrived at the new base of operations yesterday 3:30 local time. No idea what that is back at fleet headquarters but from Illinois it was 830. 5 hour timezone difference.

Only been here 12 hours and I don't regret anything. People are super nice, every view is worth looking at more than once, and the environment is great for my disabilities. Hopefully soon I'll be back in the game. Going to see if my wife's laptop can handle it till my tower arrives.

This is the hotel. Can't get into the house till the first so we have to wait. The top one is from Ali'i drive in kona. But to be fair, every view is amazing here. Worth every penny spent.

Petty officers log: supplemental.

Hawaiian life suits me. Its like moving to Risa. Been discovering all kinds of new people and places. Locals are very friendly and some local dishes are very different. Spam is a delicacy here and they will absolutely find a place for it. There are homeless here, but no beggars. Bananas, papaya, avocado, mangos and dozens of other fruit and vegetables just grow wild here. I have a banana tree outside my hotel room and an avocado tree. Up the road are fresh kona coffee beans just hanging from a tree in the street. It's weird that someone can be making 4k a month and rather live on the literal beach in a tent, and have a brand new car in the parking lot.

Also the pizza here is AMAZING. All hand made from the sauce to the toppings. Black Rock pizza is the best I've ever had. As an old fat guy, I've had a lot of pizza. If anyone makes it to the big island, you have to try this place in captain Cook.
